I got all excited that Infiinity would be christened in LA and checked the calendar and the day was good, Saturday. But when I checked Infinity's itinerary it says that she leaves on a 14 night Panama Canal Cruise onn March 10, 2001 and that would place her in Puerto Caldera on the 17th. Can you confirm this, as I would really like to try and see this if it is to be in LA.
I will be sailing on the Infinity on March 17. She will be docking in San Diego and then we board in Ensenada. Are they taking her to LA in between? I would love to hear that she will be christened in San Diego on March 17. I have a hotel by the dock just to see that she has arrived. It has been a long wait. I have been to the christening of tankers as a child. My father worked at the ship yard in Phila. It is a great experience.
There must be some confusion re the inaugural cruise and the christening. We
will be on the first cruise, departing Ft. Lauderdale on Mar. 3 and disembarking
in San Diego on Mar. 17. I believe she immediately moves to Ensenada and the
I believe the info you're reading regarding Infinity's March 10 sailing is the old schedule before they announced a one-month delay to the ship back last Fall.
March 17 should be the day the Inaugural Panama cruise finishes in San Diego, and the first Ensenada-Hawaii cruise begins. Not sure how they're going to find time to sail up to LA, but they say these are FAST ships!
Just about ten days ago we were all worried that the ship might be delayed. Its good to see that we found something else to worry about with the Infinity. When she arrives on Monday in Fort Lauderdale, I'll drive ten minutes north on Federal Highway from my home and keep an eye out for a bottle on a rope and someone that might look like a Godmother thats hanging around the ship. Request everyone stand by and wait.
We've all wondered if this phantom ship existed...no photos since she was finished.....and now if I'm sailing on her before she is even Christened (3/3), that will still make her sort of a phantom, won't it? If there is no-one there and you DO find the bottle on a rope, would you please do the deed, so that I actually do get on the "INFINITY" next Saturday? :--)
I dont know why I had LA on the brain. San Diego it is!
Pat, I believe the reason she will be named on the West Coast is to not only boost the West Coast visibility of the line but I also believe that the her inaugural coincides with the annual SeaTrade convention which might pose a schedule conflict for many potential atendees.

PS--Mary Lou, I'll put in a good word for you! <wink>
On the 10th March Infinity will be in Puerto Caldera on her way northbound to San Diego where she arrives on the 17th. You must be looking at the old schedule before the delay in delivery was announced
