It appears that our 3-28 sailing may not be sold out. We have an outside cabin, but because of the 5 day sailing back to Ensenada, thought that a veranda (on the starboard side, of course) would be nice, due to the potential crowding on deck. Question is, if verandas are available, would it be best to upgrade thorugh our TA or take a chance and see what we could get on board. My sincere thanks in advance.

Hi Ralph,
Depends on how much you want to have the balcony cabin. I'd try calling the travel agent and see what they can come up with, better safe than sorry. Hope he/she can find something for you, its certainly cruising with a balcony, whole different expierence. In most cases, once you get on board there will not be any left, good luck.
If you want a balcony, I'd definitely call your TA now, my guess is there will not be any available once you sail. Fares for this cruise have just been lowered so get on the phone.
Go to "Cruise Critic" and read the thread "buying upgrades".
I strongly agree with Pat. Every time I sail, the friendly sign "There are no upgrades available as the ship is fully booked" is placed on the counter at the guest reception desk.
My TA also told me that upgrades for VIP's, past passengers, etc are handled by the Sales Department during the week prior to the ship's sailing. No doubt the cruise line moves everyone up and fills the upper level categories. So while the ship may not actually be fully booked at sailing, they can still hang out the sign at the reception desk, as the only cabins left are the lowest category insides, hence nothing to "upgrade" to.
