Default on board account

Does anyone know if Celebrity allows you to open up a cash deposit account for on board spending? I prefer this to using my card, have traveled with RCL and use that method, May 18 will be our first time with Celebrity. Infinity and Alaska here we come!

Yes, you can set your account on a cash basis. We were not required to put any money up-front either last year on the Mercury nor this past January on the Millie. On Friday you should receive a summary of your account and then again on Saturday evening. Last year, I went and paid my account in cash on Saturday afternoon and then switched any additional purchases to my credit card. The switch-over was easy, just provided my credit card number at that time. That way, the only amount charged was for any drinks and/or photographs that I purchased Saturday night--worked great. This year, I only used my credit card. Saved time by not having to visit the bank on board to pay up and making sure I had enough cash for tips for the outstanding crew. Either way, Celebrity makes it pretty easy on us! Have a great time!

Easier yet is to open the account with your Credit Card... then get a print out of charges on next to the last day or so... and pay what you want in cash. Just the outstanding balance, if any, will be charged to your credit card account. We do this on those rare occasions when the Roulette Wheel is kind and we want to use the proceeds to pay off all or part of the account.

That's what we did Erniemc and it worked out very well. Had some traveler's checks left over on Saturday so just went down to the ship bank and wrote them out to pay our account instead of putting it on the credit card. A few drinks on Saturday were all that were charged after that. Tips were put in envelopes before we left for our cruise so that took care of that (but the recommended wasn't enough for the service we had on the Millennium so we, of course, "upped" the amount.
