Default What happens to crew?

When the INFINITY is drydocked for two weeks and the GALAXY for one week, does anyone know what happens to the crew? Does the cruise line make up for the lost income or are they just out of luck? Just curious.

We were on the Millenium just after it drydocked for 2 weeks

The asst cruise director said she had 2 weeks off-- I would guess that most of the management- and officers had time off. We saw entertainment staff and others greeting each other as if they had not seen each other for a while

Our Waiters said they still worked, using the time to update on menu changes--
apparently the cabin staff stayed also and did maintenance and cleaning.

Just got back off the Millennium May 31st. We were told by our waiter that he was compensated 400$ for the last Mille drydock. It was actually welcome as it was a paid vacation in the US.

I asked our dining room guy on the Galaxy last week. He said that a lot of the crew were due to go home and would do so. The rest of them would stay on the ship. I would not think that they could actually stay on the ship in drydock but that is what he said.

It depends on the department: Diningroom personnel work minimal hours and are paid a set wage to compensate for their lack of tips this is true for houskeeping staff as well except they do an extensive cleaning of the ship during this time. Hotel dept. works around the clock and the front desk stays open 24hrs a day due to all the technichians working around the clock as well as the bridge officers. Spa, Photogs, and Shops are S.O.L they aren't making any money right now. That is because they are concessionaires and do not work for the cruise line and it is up to their company as to what they get paid. Despite what everyone would like to think, this is no vacation. Seldom have power and hot water at the same time and everyone is bored out of their scull.
