My wife and I are travelling from Nashville to San Juan via Atlanta. We booked our air through Celebrity along with a two night pre-cruise stay. At what point do we put the luggage tags on our bags that Celebrity sent us? I have read different things in trip reviews and would like to hear from some experienced Celebrity cruisers.
Since you are staying pre-cruise in San Juan and you booked through Celebrity, you put your Celebrity Luggage Tags on in your hotel roomin San Juan. What date and ship are you sailing? We are on the Galaxy on 11/2.
Bon Voyage
For some reason or another, docs frorm most cruise lines suggest putting tags
on at the airport before boarding. We had one bad experience with this procedure,
and now(after 14 cruises)never put the cruise tags on our bags until after we
have claimed them at the baggage carousel upon arrival. It's important that the
bags are off the airplane at the proper destination. ENJOY
Lew, I too understand that now, everyone has to claim their own bags at baggage claim compared to before when the airline representative claimed the bags and trucked them to the ship. So this would be the best time for everyone who flies in to attach the cruise line tags to prevent any mishandling.
Bon Voyage
Even before the security issues of the last month, I have always claimed my own bags at the airport before turning them over to the cruise line, no matter what they advised me to do.
The reason's simple: if the airline loses your bag, would you rather find out while you're still at the airport or after you've embarked (and possibly after you've sailed!)?
Keep the ship's tags off the bags until you've claimed them at the airport, even if you're connecting directly with the ship.
Any comments from cruiseline reps here,
On of the pros'I;ve seen is that by leaving the tags on prior to your flight is the airline knows you are cruising and the baggage handler automatically offload to trucks for the line.
Also if your bag did get lostt the airline works to get the bag to the crusieline or next port.
