A first time cruiser who knows very little about cruising but who has traveled a lot asked me about Celebrity & wanted to know if they have good nightlife. I am aware of the line's reputation (esp. food) but how does their nightlife compare to, say, RCCL's & Princess's.The people going are in their mid-30's, active & want to make sure there's a good casino on board as well as good gyms. They also want a romantic atmosphere. I think the line would be fine (though from what I've heard their shows & Princess's are not the quality of some of the other lines). Princess & RCCL are also being considered. Though they say they like to party, Carnival is definitely not their style. Somewhere, perhaps on this sight, I read that Celebrity ships carry early to bed types & there is very little entertainment late at night. Is this true? Do their bands & d.j.s play mostly contemporary & jazz or are they heavier into the ballroom stuff? The Century, Millenium & Horizon were the ships being considered. Opinions & info., please? Thanks for any replies.
Celebrity line is our favorite. Last cruise we were on the Mercury and the nightlife was there if you wanted to enjoy. Of course, everything is relative. Celebrity line is definitely not a party ship if that's what you mean by ..... nightlife. I can tell you that the entertainment and the shows are top notch, we've never been disappointed. Next month we will be on the Millennium so then I can speak about this ship. I know that the casino on the Millennium is huge from what I've read in comparison to the Mercury which was pretty small. We like to enjoy the shows and then look for a lounge where we can dance. Celebrity is a great line. Hope this helps. Genie
I have to come to Celebrity's defense concerning their entertainment. I sailed on Milli in January and the shows were wonderful. All the passengers were commenting on the great shows. I learned that Celebrity had recently changed the production company they were using and it was a great move.
I think your friends would have a wonderful time on any Celebrity ship. My current favorite is Millennium.

I was on the Millennium recently - the gym facilities are very good - lots of treadmills and some stairclimbers, rowing machines - good variety of nautilus equipment - the aerobic classes were great too.
For the most part we really enjoyed the entertainment onboard - the production shows were great - the singers and dancers were very entertaining - and they are a nice group of people too - during the day they work in the library and in some of the shops and they were always very friendly and helpful - more so than some of the cruise staff in our opinion. We enjoyed the comedians and the illusionist too.
Although we are in our 40's - we are those early to bed types so I really can't comment on the late night entertainment - we enjoyed the duo from Italy that played in the Cosmos Lounge - they played a variety of contemporary music - there were always lots of people dancing - I think they played till midnight.
The Millennium is a beautiful ship - the food was outstanding - the staterooms are very comfortable - the ship is clean - the service was great - it was a great trip!
We have been on Century and Infinity (sister of Millie) and loved both. Our favorite is Infinity and we just booked Summit for next April. RCCL is a little more upbeat in general, but the food, atmosphere, and general ambiance is better on Celebrity. One of the big differences is that Celebrity doesn't have all the constant announcements over the PA system like other lines do. Instead of announcing that Bingo is now starting in the such and such lounge, they expect you to read your daily newsletter and show up! I feel Celebrity is very romantic and that's why my hubby and like their ships. We have been on RCCL, Princess and Norwegian also. You will have a very classy, pampered time on the Millenium.
There is a disco on each ship that plays Top 40 from the "80's & 90's" usually till 2am unless there are alot of people and then it can go till 4am. I am 34 and my wife is 32 and we are not party animals but we like to have fun when we are away. We have been on three Celebrity ships, they are a good mix of sophistication and fun. The majority of the ship is older in the 45-64 demo but when they go to bed you have a ship with the younger ones.
Thanks everybody! Sounds like they will be fine on this line. Glad to hear their production company changed. This obviously helped. I told them to check out the 360 degree views of the ships they are considering. Hopefully that will narrow it down for them. Plan to cruise Celebrity myself. Maybe the next Time that I won't have a teen along!
