I spoke to a Customer Service Rep at Celebrity who confirmed that Galaxy will be leaving from the Pan American Pier (old Navy pier) from San Juan for the November 9th sailing.
There has been some question on these message boards as to which pier Galaxy sails from, since apparently the Pan Am pier was under repair for awhile and Galaxy was leaving from the RCI pier in Old San Juan, but she tells me that she confirmed this directly with the San Juan office.
Does anyone know exactly where this pier is? Is it closer to the airport or further away. Can you still walk to Old San Juan or do you need to take and taxi? How much would a taxi from here be to Old San Juan?
I live in Puerto Rico and at this moment the ships of Celebrity are in Pier 4. I have a friend that works with the Authorities of Port in San Juan and he told me that the PanAmerican Pier was for the ships of Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas and the Radiance. If this is going to change, I don't know, but I tell you what my friend said. About the PanAmerican Pier, if you want to go to San Juan, you will have to take a taxi, but it is not to far, but its far if you don't like to walk.
I hope the Galaxy will be on Pier 4 in Old San Juan when I take the cruise on December 14. You can say to the people BYE.
YEs, if Galaxy is in the Navy area, you will need a taxi to get to Old San Juan, should be $10 or less, but the airport is still quite a distance from both these piers, about 30 minute drive.
Just returned from 10/26 cruise aboard Galaxy. We definitely embarked from the regular pier in Old San Juan, not the Pan American. I too had called and was told twice by Celebrity Cust Service that the PanAm pier would be used. I'm not sure how long they will use the regular pier, but that is where we embarked/disembarked. Have a great cruise. E-mail me if you want further details or see my cruise review at cruisecritic.com under cruise reviews.
