Specifically, my wife and I are avid hikers and are looking for the best day hike on St. Lucia when we are there on the Infinity on 12/10/01. Climbing one of those volcanic peaks with the panoramic views would be great. We are thinking about Mt. Gimie. Recommendations WRT guides (or the need for them), were to get maps, … Anyone in St. Lucia that day want to join us?
We walked up the large hill behind Castries 8 years ago. It was quiet paved road all the way up except about 100 yds near the top, where it merged with a busy road. Passed a batik factory and a hotel about half way up. The peak has the remains of a very old fort that has been taken over by a local college. One of the students spotted us walking around and gave us a pretty good rundown on the history. Pretty spectacular view of Castries, the harbor, and our ship far below. We could just see the Pitons and other mountains on the other side. We were both pretty pooped when we finally got down, skipped shopping in town and settled into the Rendevous Lounge on board for several tall cool ones.
This was on our first cruise, a 10 day ultimate Caribbean on the Meridian (alas, she's now long gone).
