pool quiet time
I recently read that on the Infinity they have a period during the day that they call quiet time. What exactly is this? No supervised pool games or no one making any noise or no kids allowed in the water? What about during a day when the ship is at sea and it's school vacation weeK?

Re: pool quiet time
Pam, on Millenium it was about five hours in the middle of the day the day in which the pool area was like a library in which you are supposed to whisper. A stupid policy in my minds eye. I think that they are just cost cutting on entertainment.

You actually have to whisper???

Makes no sense.
Stay tuned. Film won't be at 11:00 but will certainly be around tomorrow. pamda -- CM FIrst-Time Cruisers Editor |
Re: pool quiet time
I would think someone is "exaggerating" JUST a little here. The Celeb ships I've been on are a bit reserved.. but none of this nonsense. Sounds like a little rumor mill.. someone saying the pool area on Celeb was pretty quiet.. pass it on.. 14 sets of lips later, QUIET TIME official on Celeb.

Re: pool quiet time
Well actually strange but true. There was not talking police but they did encourage the lack of noise during "Quiet Time" at the pool.
My question still stands, is this happening on other Celebrity Ships or was this just the Millennium? I thought it was due to the fact we were cruising the med with alot of europeans on board. But I have read other posts that state the same thing. I should have saved the dailys so I could prove it. I was on the September 4th sailing from Istanbul to Barcelona. |
Re: pool quiet time
Mike.. I'm assuming that was Sept 4 last year. Is that correct? We were there in Oct.. on Millennium, and had no such thing going on by the pool. Though sea days were few on our sailing.

Re: pool quiet time
Just got off the Thasnksgiving cruise on Millie, and I can assure you the the pool was anything but quiet from 11:00 am to sunset. In fact I very much benefited from my Bose noise cancellers with CD music. JP

Re: pool quiet time
Kuki, actually it was this year September 4th through 16th. We were in Greece when the twin towers were attacked. The "Quiet Time" policy at the pool was in effect at sea and in port. Could it be that they do this for Mediterrainian sailings as you sailed a month later and did not have this policy in the Caribbean?

Re: pool quiet time
Hi, Mike ...
Can you describe the "Quiet Time" policy? I would be particularly interested in how it's stated in the "Daily". Thanks. pamda |

The only thing I can possibly think of is it had something to with the 9-11 attacks. Nothing else makes sense! Regards, Kuki |
Re: pool quiet time
I can't remember the exact language. They just listed "Quiet Time" by the pool as a activity in the daily (as if lying by the the pool quiet is being active). There was language to suggest that making noise would be disruptive to other passengers. I do wish I saved those dailys as friends that have cruised find it hard to believe too.

Re: pool quiet time
Personally I would love a quiet time by the pool. I think it would be a nice way to make room for those passengers who would appreciate a quiet time to read, relax, talk or think without having to use noise cancellers to block out the music or other loud activity. Anyone else in this boat?

Re: pool quiet time
OK ...
Mike gave me an idea. As in "Duh" -- I have a whole stack of "Dailies" from last week. (Why do I save those things?) Lo and behold: "Quiet Time" -- Enjoy your tropical surroundings and relax -- 1-3 Poolside. Hmmm. Then I looked at the "Daily" for an at-sea day -- no "Quiet Time." What I am guessing this means is no poolside band or games. I'm with Amy on this. I want to be able to talk without screaming. pamda -- CM First-Time Cruisers Editor |
Re: pool quiet time
I saved my "Dailies" from my first cruise but no longer, good find.
However you were lucky that your cruise only had "Quiet Time" for two hours at port. I can't remember exactly how many hours it was on my cruise but each day had a large amount of time (4-5 hours everyday) set aside for quiet by the pool. Now I am all in favor of quiet when I want quiet, like in the library or numerous other places on the ship. I never expected that the pool area would be designated a quiet zone for any period of time due to the nature of it being a pool. I thought that the whole purpose of the Aqua spa pool was to have a quiet area to escape. Why does both pool areas need to be "Quiet"? Why not one or the other so guests can choose what is appropriate for them? |
Re: pool quiet time
Interesting! I would have appreciated some quiet time on my Atlantica cruise in March, it was very noisy by the pool, all day, every day. Of course, March is not the time to cruise if you want quiet. I did manage to find some quiet spots but I had to search pretty hard. I have never seen anything like that in a daily before (and I save mine, too, Pam). Hmmm, wonder if they will have that in May on the Summit! Sue

Re: pool quiet time
Rounding this one up, it seems that "Quiet Time" just means no intrusions by bands, recorded music, stupid human games, etc.
I think Celeb would be well-advised to just remove that notation from the Daily. pamda -- CM First-Time Cruisers Editor who obviously didn't know about "Quiet Time". |
