I am looking at Mercury & Infinity for Alaska next July. We can do a Cat 1 Suite on Mercury or aft 1B on Infinity. I have sailed Mercury before in a Sky Suite. Just wondering if Infinity is a "better" ship. I do like that Mercury sails to Sitka. Opinions are appreciated.
I sailed Infinity to Ak in Sept and have sailed Mercury twice before to AK. I am booked on Mercury for June 2002. I just perfer the Mercury and feel both the service and food are better on it than the Infinty. To me the Mercury has a personality, but the Infinity lacks"warmth". This is ofcourse, a very personal opinion but to me I have always had excellent cruises on Mercury no matter where she sails. Many may not agree with me and perfer the newer Infinity,( to me its too big) but they can have it...I'll take the Merc any day
You could also consider Summit. Have cruised on Mercury and Summit, both are excellent ships. Prefer Summit, however you can't go wrong with any of the three. I would recommend Northbound or Southbound though as I think the scenery is better, but you will have a longer flight with Anchorage. Have a great cruise.
I have sailed on Infinity on May 2001 to Alaska and noticed that Infinity used better port facilities in Vancouver and Juneau than Mercury that came to these ports at the same time. I have talked about the differences between Infinity and Mercury with my tablemate who was very experienced cruiser and he said that these ships are "the same cakes in the different boxes".
We cruised to Alaska on the Mercury and did the Eastern Caribbean on the Millennium. I also toured the Infinity in Vancouver last year. I would definitely choose the Infinity!
Our next cruise...Infinity , Feb 2, 2002!
