new Captain's Club

Did anyone else get an applic. to sign up for the NEW Captain's Club? It contained a cruise survey & seemed like a marketing initiative to me. Does anyone know what will be new or different? Thanks

Re: new Captain's Club

I received my NEW Captain's Club info in the mail yesterday. I missed NEW the first time I read the letter. Thought it could be an update. After reading your post hcat, I went back & read it a second time! Could be that since RCCL updated their Crown & Anchor Society recently, it's now time for Celebrity to do the same since Celebrity is owned by RCCL. Just a thought.

I don't know what will be NEW or different but I will be surprised if it is anything that benefictial, as you say, more of a marketing initiative. I also received it and the first thing that I noted was that they failed to list 12 cruises I took with them. Frankly that kind of annoyed me, that they really paid so little attention to tracking regular and good customers. They do provide an area to update the list.

The recent UPDATE/NEW Crown and Viking club failed to appear to enhance previous bennies, in fact I note they eliminated the percentage off in ship stores. A friend that sailed very recently said they now provide a coupon book onboard for discounts. That means simply what they can't get rif of I would imagine.

Everything with the lines is now the BOTTOM line. Sometimes ALL BUSINESS bottom lines is what grinds a business to a halt. Being a REPEAT customer has never been a real big plus for those that are. Most of anything they send you can be either duplicated or surpassed by off the street deals. Even the WELCOME parties have become selling events, kind of like attending a time share event.

Even the Celebrity one cat gauranteed upgarde often has limited value. In example, booking the Galaxy Cat 2 Baltimore cannot pay cat 3, well you can but it is HIGHER than cat 2 price thus no one cat upgrade benefit. Small print also notes no inside to outside, no ocean view to suite and so forth. So value is often only between cats with limited benefit of upgrade.

The major benefit of Captains Clubs is priority embarkation and that is only really benefiticial if you arrive and pplace is packed.

I got mine also from Celebrity and am somewhat peeved that with the sailings I have done with them that they,Celebrity did not have
my sailings and one would think that they would everytime I've sailed with them.

George : New Crown and Anchor benefits include waiver of the air deviation fee for platinum and diamond members, a discount on balcony cabins (we received an additional $100 off of ours on the Brilliance next September), and the coupon books which include some free drink coupons, casino credits etc. Also the vaunted Celebrity, priority boarding and disembarkation. There are additional benefits but I suggest checking their website to see which, if any, would be of interest or value to you.

Celebrity DID list mine! Oh course we have taken only one previous cruise last year on the Zenith in March. Do you think they have only one year lists they use??

Celebrity has no earthly idea how many times you have cruised with them. This was told to me by two agents.

I just completed my 20th cruise with them. When I received my
Update Letter, out of the 18 which should have been listed, only 4 were listed.

Princess on the other hand... not only has kept my records since the beginning, they also had every Sitmar cruise I sailed prior to Sitmar being taken over by Princess.

And that friends, is the difference between smart marketers and hacks!!

Princess may well be better at marketing their product, but I believe Celebrity delivers a better product.

Re: new Captain's Club

Well it seems that the record keeping leaves much to be desired, but then again much leaves a lot to be desired. In example for " goodwill " purposes Celebrity issued 25% off coupons for those scheduled to sail from NY and forced to sail out of Baltimore instead. This should have been a nice thing and fostered " goodwill " but will probably in many cases simply piss many off. Why, because by the time they place the limitations on useage you pretty much feel like the whole thing was a joke. No JUNE or JULY, must be same categorey, 7 DAY cruise, cruise only , no holidays, no this no that. I believe the final requirement is that you must have a third child named Bill who turns 7 on the fifth day of a cruise where the fifth day is a Monday with a full moon. I'm kidding of course, I think I am anyway, maybe I better just check.

Throw in the FREE 1 cat upgrade, but wait the cat BELOW the balcony ( cat3 ) is WHAT (???) higher priced than the Cat 2. Humm so there goes that FREE upgrade. No couldn't have anything to do with them no really wanting to upgrade Captains Club members from cat 3 to cat 2 ( by the way there are already limits on that upgrade of course, no inside to outside, no regular cats to suite cats and so forth.

YES I believe I am important to Celebrity ( or any ) cruiseline. Gotta go, tooth fairy is coming for dinner. Part of my upgrade pacjage from the dental plan...:)
