I need help, have always been a Celebrity cruiser (6 times), my first two were 6-7 years ago to Bermuda on the old Meridian, then on the Zenith. Then I was spoiled by the Century in its first year and the Infinity last August. Now some family members cruising for the first time want me to go to Bermuda with them this summer. I love Bermuda but now being spoiled by the newer ships with balconies and bigger rooms I am hesitant to go on the Horizon or Zenith (I'm in charge of the bookings) I hate somewhat to try another line (although Celebrity hasn't been without problems, at least I know what to expect) Princess is the only line I have heard anything good about (Carnival will never get me) Anybody have any feedback?? Food and dining, service and entertainment are most important. My wife and I are 50 (act like 20) and would like a mixed aged lively group. HELP!!
I too am a long time Celebrity person and understand your concerns. Given the fact food and dining are the two most important items... I would suggest going back to Bermuda on the Zenith. I think you can have just as much "fun" on Zenith, but you just won't have the stateroom options that the newer and larger ships offer. A few years ago we sailed back to Bermuda on the QE 2(trying a different ship on a familar route)and it was such a mistake. Hope to see you on a Celebrity ship.(we have done Princess too, but Celebrity is always first choice).
Because of size restraints, none of the newer larger ships go to Bermuda. Horizon and Zenith do not have balconies but as far as I am concerned these are the two best ships going to Bermuda. Best itineraries, best service and really nice ships. They do not have the attriums and glitz of some of the newer ships, but they are nice none the less. Give them a try, I think this makes a great 7 day cruise.
We, too, are sailing to Bermuda for the third time on the Zenith, this summer. The first time we sailed to Bermuda, we chose the Meridian, also. We've been aboard other Celebrity ships, as well as heaven help me, the HAL ship, Zaandam. What a mistake that was.! Go with what you are familiar with. You will never top the Celebrity staff and food, and the destination is sumptous. The Zenith is, by far, our favorite cruise ship.
Hi all, thanks for all your feedback, I guess you all confirmed what i already knew. Celebrity does seem the best overall so i guess we will book the Zenith. I just hate that the prices seem to have gone up (Celebrity has an 11 day cruise to Carribean on the Millennium for about the same price as 7 day Bermuda cruise. Newer ship, longer cruise, same price!) Thanks for your help.
Bermuda cruises from NY sellout. There is no reason for them to be discounted. In addition, the shops and casino are closed for three and a half full days and nights (no revenue added there). Add to that the fact that people are ashore at night, not spending money at the bars etc. As a result, the cruise lines get more money for the Bermuda cruises. Bermuda also tends to pull from the NY area so people can do the cruise without airfares and overnight stays and such. The cruise fare to Bermuda may seem high, but the total vacation cost is low.
In my opinion Bermuda is just about the perfect cruise stop and is also worth a few $ more.
FYI we are booked on Zenith May 11 - 18. We booked a CAT 2 suite for our 25th anniversary, booking just before Christmas and paid full price. I have watched the fares on Celebrity's web site and they have dropped the fare twice. The fare has dropped $1498 since we booked! We asked our travel agent for the lower fare and Celebrity agreed to the credit. We would not have been given the credit had we not watched the fares.
Don't assume that the Bermuda cruises will sell out. Some will, but some won't. Request the lower fare if you book early and they drop it later. We were lucky that I thought to check, but it is a lesson I won't forget. The rest of our vacation is now free!
