Default Specialty Restaurant on Constellation

Just got off the phone with Celebrity Customer Service asking about the theme for the Specialty Restaurant on the Constellation and was told that the name chosen for the restuaurant was "Ocean Liners", (ike maybe there aren't enough bits left of one single liner to predominate!)

If true, but if so I won a $5 bet with a friend who insisted the restaurant would be called Mauretania.

Trivia Question: What was the name of the first "specialty restaurant" at sea that charged a fee for dining outside the regular dining room? One hint, the year was 1906.

Amerika - Cesar Ritz had the contract. The smartest ship afloat until Mauretania in 1907.

Hi Carole!!

The Amerika was designed in 1903.... she was at sea by 1906 until her grandeur was eclipsed by Mauretania in 1907.

The concession on the Titanic was run by Gattis of London. Needless to say, Luigi Gatti and all his staff were drowned.

Right Babette! I ran across that bit of trivia in John Maxtone-Graham's book The Only Way to Cross just after I had read a message on the "Cruise Gripe" board about these new-fangled premium restaurants on cruise ships and had a good chuckle when I learned the practice began almost a century ago.

Well, Ken, as they say... history repeats itself.

Thankfully, the Celebrity speciality restaurants are not serving the same "Ritz" menus...... whew........don't like those organ parts..........not to mention cholesterol count busters!!!
