Not only dark & shady...but can be very noisey (from above) depending on exactly where you are.....I'd move down a deck or two just to be safe.....but stay with the slightly larger room (191 sq ft) instead of the 170 sq ft. If still available take one of the aft cabins (not on Sky deck because the aft restaurant folks will be watching you on your veranda) They are great......fabulous view of the wake......only noise there would be some vibrations when docking....
Yikes. We will be on the sky deck. Dee, where did you read re this deck being dark and shady? Anyone w/ more details? What's causing the shade? What about if one's cabin is below the start of the pool area - noisewise?
I read it on another board--we figured we were under the "Massage Area"so it would be quiet not noisy deck chairs overhead. As I understand it there is a large overhang!! Think I will call out TA today and see if we can change--When will you be on the Constellation?
RE: Shade/Overhang question. Go to the Photo Galleries section and view "Gitte's" Constellation 5/26/02 photos....the first photo (top left) will show you the large overhang from the pool deck.....the top row with the white angled support beams are the sky deck verandah rooms....
It's not the shade that I found offensive on the sky deck, it was the noise. The bare metal overhang caused lots of loud "bonging" noise from above......but we were in cabin 9092 almost dirrectly under the pool grill area......maybe elsewhere would be better....so check the deck plans as to what is above you when you make your cabin choice.
Sky deck is great for running back and forth to the pool, just 1 deck up. But the overhang blocks out the sun and obstructs the view. My first balcony cabin was on Millie on the Sky deck and I was dissapointed. No problem with noise, though, and everything else about the cabin was perfect.
For my next cruise (Summit, 8/23 Alaska), I'm in 6144, which is a category 1C but with a deck that is 3x larger and open to the sky. Live and learn!
Have stayed on the Sky Deck on the Summit, didn't have a problem with noise (and we were under the pool), but it does put a damper on taking pictures from the balcony, without the overhang showing up in each one.
If it is extremely hot, it does cut down on the sun that comes in the cabin, so it has it's plus side too. If doing it all over again, we would have moved down a deck.
Thanks for everyone's comments. It it's hot, we may see the plus side of a cooler veranda - yet, that overhang sounds like a bummer. As Cher said, live and learn. Our trip is quite port intensive (med. in Oct) so maybe we won't be using our veranda that much - we wanted a place to hang while out little takes an afternoon nap inside. Is the railing/wall of the veranda see through glass?
