Default Millenium Cruise, just got back

Hi all, just a note to say that my friend just got back from her cruise today, the did the deep western route. She said that they did not go to Cartehenga {sp?} that they spent the extra day in Aruba, and that was because of unrest there. Costa Rica, was very rainy, this is their rainy season. Panama has a garbage strike, and was a little bit "smelly", lol..She did do the tour to the Panama Canal and said it was fabulous, the ferry one, and said it is worth the money...The Caymans were great. she said the ship was fabulous, and the food was wonderful...they loved the Normandy Restaurant, and said they would go again in a heartbeat...All in all she said she loved everything about the ship, but the ports were just ok...Well I am doing the same cruise on the Summit, and I hope the ship is as great...Since the ports are just ok, I intend to to enjoy the ship to the fullest...Cheryl

I also have gotten the feeling that the ports are no big deal. We cruise for the enjoyment of the cruise, not necessarily the sightseeing. We did the Infinity to Alaska last August which was great but not much on deck activities (pool, band, dancing, as it was too cold) and the balcony was great but again too cool to stay on. We will be on the 11 day Millie cruise in August and are looking forward to using the balcony more and enjoying the cruise than visiting the ports.

I have been wondering how Celebrity (especially the Millie) has been handling the loss of a port stop in Cartegena. I had been told that they were just giving another day at sea. As I understand your message, they are now going from Colon, Panama directly to Aruba and spending 2 days there. Does anyone know if this is the case for all of the Ultimate Caribbean sailings on the Millie?

I also just got back from the July 1 Millennium cruise. It was wonderful. We spent only one day in Aruba, and the day that would have been in Colombia was spent at sea. This was fine. Everything is great about the ship. Good food, and plenty of quiet spaces to read and relax in if you need quiet, even though the ship was full. By the way, it's the Olympic restaurant, not the Normandy. It was absolutely wonderful. Quite worth the extra cost. I'd love to answer any questions anyone has about the ship, since we just got back.

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip! We're off on the Millenniun next Monday and I've been so worried about this due to many reviews I've recently read. You helped put my mind to rest.
I do have a few questions....after viewing the 11 night menu, which evening would you suggest going to the Olympic Restaurant? Usually on cruises one or two nights are not "great " eating nights.
I read that the casino closes very early and basically nothing is open after midnight. This can't be true, can it?
In your opinion, how did Celebrity do with matching people at the dinner tables? My husband and I are in our 50's and are leaving our 4 kids at home...last thing I want is to be at a table with someone elses' kids (yes everyone...I want to be with adults as I have four of my own and also teach special ed all year!) !
OH..almost forgot...did you talk to anyone who took the Panama Ferry tour through the canal? It's an expensive tour and I can't find review on it.
Thank you so much for any answers you can give!

Thanks for the update. I find it interesting that one trip had 2 days in Aruba and the other two days at sea. This seems to indicate that the itinerary is at the discretion of the captian for each sailing. I would love to hear about your shore excursions, especially in Panama and Costa Rica. I have already been to Aruba and Grand Cayman so I pretty much know what I want to do there. Although I lived in Panama for 2 years (30+ years ago) it has changed so much that I would like to know more about it.

Hi! We chose the Saturday night for the Olympic restaurant since it wasn't a formal night and was in the middle of the cruise. It worked out well. As far as dinner partners, we were at a large table with "middle-aged" cruisers (like us!). Don't worry about anything! I find that the more I read these boards the more I worry. It was just wonderful. Are you going on an 11-day trip like us? You'll love it! We were definitely a full ship, and we never really felt crowded (except at the outdoor pool on a sea day).
Otherwise, it was just great....a very beautiful ship with great ambience.
