Default Just a Nice Regular Dress for Formal Night????

I do not have any other occasions to wear formal wear and really hate to spend a lot of money on a dress for formal night. Do some people wear just a nice regular dress such as you might wear on Easter Sunday?

Bea, yes. It will probably look a lot nicer than some of the formal dresses I have seen .
Wear it and have a wonderful cruise!

Bea,

Wear your Sunday best and be comfortable. You will see everything from Sunday dresses to sequined gowns. Enjoy

I would be more comfortable "blending" into the crowd, and in my experience, that means go formal. You could wear a black skirt or pants, even in a crepe or lightweight wool fabric, you probably already own, with a beaded or sequined top, that right now you can buy in a dept store on sale for 1/2 off (after the holidays), borrow a little evening bag from a friend, and you're set. The whole deal would maybe set you back $50. Also, if this is your first cruise, you UNDOUBTABLY will go on another one, when you see what a value it is! And, you can wear the same formal outfits again and again, because you will be with different people on different ships.

wear just about anything black with maybe a fancy blk shawl or scarf & you will blend in...they take a nice formal portrait so you may want to dress up & have a great souvenier.

There was more formal wear than Sunday dresses on the cruise we went on in January. A simple black dressy dress or pant suit would be more in keeping with the feel of the evening. It was wonderful to be all dressed up and see almost everyone else dressed for the evening. The women looked wonderful in their finery and the men looked handsome in their tuxedos.

Thanks to everyone. I am getting the message that I don't have to spend a lot of money just wear something black and a little dressy.

A question for the ladies - why black dresses? We were on the Golden Princess last week and I saw most of the ladies were wearing very beautifull formal dresses and yes alot of black ones. But there was one young lady (young as compared to me), I'd say in her mid-twenties, and she was wearing a white dress and she was absolutely stunning. Is wearing white taboo? I'm just curious.

black always fits wherever you are from or going to--also flatters the figure. Not everyone can carry white! There are other colors worn but black has been standard--esp. for formal night on the few crises I have been on.

Wolf......lot of women wear black because they think it hides some of their over weight problem.
