The song you might be referring to is "1492: The Conquest of Paradise" by Vangelis. It used to be tradition to play this song on Celebrity ships while departing ports, although I haven't heard them play it for quite some time. I believe the band Onxy is the only one that still regularly plays it.
On Summit in Alaska in May seems to me they played a variation of "Over the Rainbow" - at least I seem to remember hearing that being played as we departed from several ports.....someone said it was their "signature song" -

Don't they have live music for sailaway? If so, is it outside anywhere, or just inside in a lounge or atrium area? No matter how great a song is, live beats canned, in my opinion.
It's certainly more festive.
