I've just booked a Panama Canal cruise for Oct 1, 2004. Could anyone tell me whether cabins on the Sky deck receive noise from above? I'd like to upgrade to concierge class, but I've had folks tell me the noise can be disturbing. The extra amenities for a two-week cruise would be nice.....thanks.
We've been in CC cabins on Infinity and Summit and DH will not consider another category. We, too, were warned off due to noise and overhang....however, neither of these were an issue - ever. We try to book mid-ship - somewhere near the outside elevator. That puts us between the pool area and the buffet on the above deck. And we've never been bothered by noise at any hour.
We especially like these amenities: Priority boarding (we've never had to wait in any line at the pier to board - but were hand escorted upon arrival to the desk to finalize paper work - then wisked onto the ship); priority boarding tenders; the wonderful CC in-room breakfast menu (after we found the menu(s) tucked away in the blue binder on the vanity, we never ate breakfast in the buffet or dining room again); bottle of bubbly on ice waiting for us in the room (okay - we could live without that - but it sure was a warm welcome!). My person favorite: The Pillow Menu: We were on Infinity Trans-Canal in December and I'd never have made it thru the 14-day cruise without the pillow menu - sounds strange - but I was experiencing serious back pain and selected 2 down-filled pillows (for my head!) and 2 "body pillows" from the menu (for my back) and was the bed ever comfortable!
We could certainly live without the flowers and afternoon snacks, the wonderfully big, soft robes and the upgraded bathroom amenities - but they are all a nice touch. While the suites have their up side - we certainly would never book one.....I would not know what to do with a butler!
We will be getting off the ship in SanDiego as you are boarding. I agree with the advice given to you above. You will not hear any disturbance from the decks above and might enjoy the amenities of the concierge level.
Have to agree with pooh bear. Concierge class was worth the extra $$. As for noise we did not really notice. We sailed Summit twice in concierge and will be doing the same on Constellation in Sept.

I've been warned that some balconies on sky deck fall under the glass "portholes " in the floor of the casual restaurant above. This concerns me as I have booked 9175. Can anyone tell me if privacy is an issue?
