Default ANY cruisemates on Nov. 28 MILLENNIUM sailing

Wondering if there are any cruisemates on the Nov. 28 sailing of the Millennium? We're on the CruiseMates Group cruise for Thanksgiving on the Victory, then.. as a surprise for Mrs. Kuki.... instead of going to the airport to go home, we're driving up the road to Ft. Lauderdale to board the Millennium... for an extra 7 days.

Have splurged on a RS for Mrs K for her anniverary and birthday... and would love to have some cruisemates friends in for drinks. Let me know if you're on this sailing.

Regards,
Kuki

Hi Kuki
We shall be on that cruise! There are quite a group of us already on the cruise critic connections board, I go by the name of Abbafan on that site. I shall be with my husband Andy and we are from the UK. We are spending a few days in Fort Lauderdale prior to the cruise. We can't wait!! This will be our 3rd cruise with Celebrity our others being on the Mercury and Century so we are really looking forward to trying the Millie class ship especially the Olympic restaurant.
Lucky you, imagine getting off one ship and straight onto another!! And in a Royal suite too!! How are you going to keep that a secret from your wife? We were lucky enough to be in a sky suite last year on the Century, and it was fabulous , we were truly spoilt. We have booked concierge class for this cruise as a compromise- couldn't run to a suite again but couldn't go back to a standard cabin after the suite!
Hope to see you on board
Lisa and Andy

Hey Lisa and Andy,

I'm happy to have found some more cruisemates this far out. Coming all the way from England, you'll have even more travel time than we do.

Shouldn't really be too difficult keeping this from Mrs. Kuki. She'll be packing for a cruise anyway, just don't have to tell her we're staying on for another.
And she likes to get laundry done at the end of a cruise anyway, rather than packing dirty, so even that shouldn't be a concern.

Hopefully she'll just think we're heading to the airport after the Victory cruise... though she may get suspicious when we head towards Ft. Lauderdale<G>

Do stay in touch... and we'll make arrangements to meet onboard!

Kuki

Hey Kuki

Looking forward to meeting you both. I would love to see your wifes face when she realises shes going on another cruise instead of going home!!
I couldn't imagine a nicer surprise than that!

Speak to you soon

Hi Kuki,

Glad to see you're joining us. Looking forward to meeting you and your wife. Which dinner seating did you book? We took the late seating.

Where are you from? Dan and I live in Florida ... Palm Beach County.
We'll be celebrating our 20th anniversary on the cruise. Can't wait. A good friend of ours from NJ will be joining us.

Hi ya Alice and Dan,

We live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Not exactly a cruise capital

Nice to see another anniversary couple. Nov. 30 will be 24 years for Mrs Kuki and I. Found someone who tolerates being with me, so I've kept here.

We're doing early seating. In the Caribbean the ship leaves port early enough that we don't feel like we're rushing to get back... and then after dinner we still have time to enjoy the ship's nightlife and casino.

Looking very much forward to this cruise, meeting new friends, and living the "suite life" if only for a week.

Regards,
Kuki

HowD Gary... yup, when it comes to meeting new cruisemates... I'm "Bi Poster" <G>

Hope we find lots of others cruisemates on the NET before we sail. As our sailing date gets closer, we can organize a live online chat, and "meet" before we meet.

Hi Kuki,

Don't forget to sign up for the cruise critic's connections party. We need 7 more people to have it.

Odd news for this sailing. A friend was looking into booking it today, and it's now showing as Code Red (sold out).

Thought this was surprising because there was a wide choice of cabins when I just recently booked, and this wouldn't normally be all that popular a week to cruise.

I called Captain's Club desk and then Celeb Customer Relations, to see if I could find out if PERHAPS this sailing had been chartered (which would result in all of us having our cruises cancelled).

They tell me that is NOT the case. The ship has NOT been chartered. That would then likely mean that some agencies have grabbed a bunch of group space... which might not be so great either <G>

To be honest, I'm not sure that I trust the information of the Customer Relations desk, that it has in fact not been chartered (sometimes they can be the last to know). Think to verify, I'll get my TA on their case.

Will let everyone hear more, if/when I get any more information.

Kuki

Hi Kuki
I checked the celebrity website and the 11/28 sailing has disappeared from there also. I was rather concerned so I have just called Celebrity here in the UK and they said it has been taken off the website because the sailing is full and has been closed. I hope they are right, the girl assured me that the sailing is still going ahead.
I do remember the same thing happened last year, our Century cruise disappeared then showed up again a month later. So fingers crossed looks like we shall still be going.
We'd better be I've had this booked since Dec! and we are booked in at the Renaissance through priceline for 4 nights pre cruise.
Let me know if they tell you any thing different.

KUKI
I think I have found the answer to why this cruise has suddenly sold out.
Just read a post on the Cruise critic Celebrity board that 500 gays are booked onto this sailing.
Thought I'd share that info with you. I hope you don't change your plans though as I had a really good feeling about this cruise

Lisa and Andy...

Thanks for the update. Hope that is the cause for the cruise showing "code red". It would mean it's still sailing<G>

If that's the case, something closer to the truth MIGHT be that an agency specializing in gay group cruises, has put a hold on remaining cabins.... as opposed to having them already booked and sold.
I think that only because it's difficult to have a group that size set and in place to book before deciding on the ship.

I've been on several cruises where Pied Piper, or other agencies have had large gay groups onboard, and have met some interesting people and became friends with people booked within the group.

I have no problem at all with this, though any type of large affinity group onboard can affect the availibility of certain facilities onboard.

If I were a young single male looking to cruise hoping to meet some available females onboard I might be disappointed <VBG>

Hi Kuki
Glad you aren't changing your plans. I think we'll just have to keep an open mind.
I'm still looking forward to this cruise, we work hard enough all year for it!

The wonders of modern technology, if it wasn't for the internet we wouldn't have a clue about our fellow passengers!

Have a great weekend

I've done some further checking, and it is indeed a Pied Piper Travel group. At this point they have 280 or so in their group. A fairly large group, but I've sailed in the past with large affinity groups where many of the ship's lounges etc. were closed for their private events ( I remember half a ship being people from an auto parts manufacturers group... and they must have included liquor in their package<G>).

I don't think you'll even notice this group onboard, except perhaps the disco being closed a couple of times during the cruise for their private cocktail parties.

Thanks for including the picture. Nice to put a face to a name. If others booked would like I can create a photo gallery.. within our photo galleries.. and give everyone simple instructions for loading their pictures. Then everyone can "meet" each other "face to face" before we sail.

You can see a picture of Mrs Kuki and I by clicking on my name on top of this message.

Hi Kuki
Glad you like the picture, it was taken in the Champagne bar on the Century last November. We were celebrating our invitation to the Captains Table which was one of the highlights of our cruise. Where was your photo taken? I bet you have been on loads of cruises.
Just been reading a thread on the gay message board re MIllie cruise and it confirms what you said, it is mainly a Pied Piper group and they obviously have their own events planned so our ship won't be "hijacked" by a large group of people after all!! Bye for now

Alice and Dan.. nice picture! Look forward to seeing those faces on the cruise.

Friends from Chicago just booked this cruise today. They're great fun and will surely add to the festivities.

Since space was showing as sold out, they actually booked this through Pied Piper as part of their gay group.

Hi Kuki
Just thought I'd drop by and see how you are doing.
When is your next cruise?
Looks like we have enough people for our connections party as I had an E mail from Celebrity confirming this.
Just read a disappointing review of the Millenium on Cruise critic, hope the standards aren't slipping, although we have always been pleased with Celebrity in the past. We'll have to wait and see and decide for ourselves.
Keep in touch

Lisa

Hi ya Lisa,

I've just been busy hanging around until my next cruise <G>

We leave in a month for Alaska on the Diamond Princess, and will be getting ready for that.

I haven't even signed up for the Cruise Connections get together yet, but will be taking care of that soon.

Also have to do the Fun Pass registration for my Carnival Victory cruise the week before.

So far the Millie trip is still a surprise. Mrs Kuki hopefully wont know about it, until we drive up to the pier in Lauderdale.

We just signed up for the 11/28 cruise also. Does anyone know of a good hotel (that's reasonable) down by the pier to stay at the night before? Four months and counting down!

Hi Ann,

Welcome Aboard!!! We used Priceline, bid Star, downtown zone, and got the Renaissance Hotel, just down the street from the pier. Booked it a while back, but if I recall we bid $45.

Hi Ann and Myrna
Welcome to our little group! where are you from?
We are staying at theRenaissance too! We are staying for 4 nights pre cruise. We used priceline and paid $80 per night. I thought we had done well until I read Kuki's post!! Maybe our lower bid wasn't accepted as we are staying for 4 nights.
Last year we stayed at the Embassy suites through Priceline which was a great place to stay especially the free breakfast buffet.Tried for it this year but bid wasn't succesful which is why we decided to go for 4*Downtown you either get the Hyatt pier66 or the Renaissance both of which have good reviews. Check out biddingfortravel.com for more advice on Priceline.
We loved Fort Lauderdale so much that we thought we would spend a few days there again this year. We arrive on Wed 24th Nov from the UK which means we will be there for Thanksgiving and also the sales the next day!!
PS dont forget to sign up for the cruise critic party, the more the merrier!!

Thanks for the hotel advice. We are from Kansas City. We usually fly in the day of the cruise and don't have any problem, however in late December we can have some bad weather up here, so I thought it safe to go a day early. Can't wait till November!

I've done the post-Thanksgiving cruise on Millennium twice--once in 2001 and again in 2003. Both times with the Pied Piper group, and let me tell you that you are all in for a fantastic time!

Unlike other affinity groups, where everyone is about the same age or has the same general interests or background, the Pied Piper group is always very diverse. Old and young, professional and blue collar, from all over the US and the world.

So they basically look like any cross section of the cruising public, and you are unlikely to feel like a fish out of water. You might not even notice that they are there. . .

Except for the Pool Olympics, where the group gets exclusive use of the pool for hilarious competitions. You can't participate unless you are part of the group, but it is a hoot to watch!

Also, the disco will be crowded at night, a rare sight indeed on Celebrity!
