I'm a first-timer and trying to figure out how much money to bring on a 14-day cruise. Is it true that tips can be put on your charge card and checks cashed in the casino? How do you figure how much you will need (average) for on-shore excursions on your own--taxi, lunch, etc. I don't plan on any major purchases. Thanks.
I don't think checks are cashed in the casino, but you can use your credit card to get cash advances. I think there are ATMs on board.
Yes, you can use your credit card for the tips but the service has always been so good that we always give more than the recommended amount. You should consider this.
How about getting travelers' checks instead? You then can go to the pursers' office and cash them as needed, that's we always do. It's so much easier. If the travelers' check are lost or stolen they can be redeemed.
How much cash for a 14 day cruise? Depends where the 14 days are, and how many days at sea. Europe will be more expensive than the Caribbean. For the Caribbean we allot ourselves about $25 a day for taxis, and other incidentals while on shore. Europe is going to be much more expnsive.
I plan $100/pp per day and end up bringing money home. This covers tips, drinks, casino, pictures, shore excursions, gifts, etc. Neither my husband nor myself are big drinkers or gamblers so this has worked for us.
