My wife and I took this cruise this past January and we had a very good time. It was my 12th cruise and it was one of the best; we even considered doing the same cruise again this coming January, but decided to go back to Hawaii instead. If you live near Galveston like we do, it is nice to be able to drive to the port.

We had a Sky Suite, on the Sky Deck, and these cabins have huge balconies. I highly recommend a Sky Suite if possible. Note that there are Sky Suites on the Penthouse Deck that have much smaller balconies.

This cruise has a good balance of sea days and port days, and they are spread throughout the cruise so you can get rested before visiting the different ports. The highlight of the trip is the Panama Canal visit and I highly recommend that you take one of the tours offered by the cruise line. You will not see much of the country unless you take a tour. The actual cruise portion of the Canal visit is just to sail through the Gatun Locks early in the morning into Gatun Lake where the ship anchors and disembarks passengers that are on tours. After disembarking these passengers, the ship later sails back through the locks and docks near the city of Colon. You will not see much of the Canal if you stay on the ship. Two tours that we have taken (this was our third visit to Panama) and can recommend are the Ocean to Ocean Train Trip, or one of the tours that take you to an Indian Village. The Ocean to Ocean Train "Dome Car" version was probably my favorite tour of any cruise.

If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask.

I'm past considering. Booked on it for 12/5/05. Would also like to hear any comments. Our first Celebrity cruise. We did the canal cruise on RCCL a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

Took this cruise last January and really enjoyed it. It's true about getting off the ship to see more locks and the overall picture of the Panama Canal. We did not get off the ship as it is tendered and DW uses two arm crutches. At this time it's difficult for her to navigate tenders.

We have cruised the full length of the canal twice before and it's wonderful!! Of course I'm predjudice as I was born in the Panama and lived in the Canal Zone for 14 years before moving the states.

We took a similar trip last March on Brilliance. Definitely take a tour or you will miss seeing this great place. We enjoyed the Gamboa Tram excursions-- It involved a long bus ride to the tour area but we got to see alot of Panama & great views..it is very very hot in Panama--sort of like NY today 100 deg. One of the best itrins we have taken even if it did not go all the way through the canal. We arrived in the early am but did get to enjoy & see our ship going through the Gatun locks....it is awesome. Read the Path Between the Seas before you go....

thanks for the feedback. We have done a trans canal cruise so we know how awesome this is. We will be taking our dear friends with us who are cruise newbies. there first cruise was with us last year an Eastern Caribbean , looking for something different. It will be a grown-ups only no kids for us cruise!
Really like the 12 days, and the ports. Thanks again.

The Crew of the Galaxy are outstanding. The food and entertainment are outstanding.
We have re-booked for April we enjoyed it so much!

The itinerary offers a grat variety, the days at sea are super.

You picked a winner!

Lisa

Excellent choice for a ship. This class of ship is my personal favorite. The balcony cabins are a nice size and there are plenty of them. Even the standard outside are a good 170 square feet. If you are splurging I agree with Sptrout and go with a Sky Suite on Sky Deck. The large balcony is wonderful and would be an added bonus on this cruise.

A partial canal cruise is nice but you would have to do a land tour. I suggest the Ocean to Ocean. If you have done a full transit it would be a different perspective from a small boat. I did the train and I was not impressed. It was far too fast to get a good view of the canal and the bus tour at the end did not give a good tour of the Canal Zone. You may want to get some other views on the bus tour.

Celebrity and Galaxy would be great choices for an adults only cruise. The 12 day length will have more adults and Celebrity will have an older but not sedate environment. I think you will like it.

I don't think you will regret the decision.

Take care,
Mike

Regarding the train tour and the bus tour.

I agree..the train makes the run quickly, the bus tour focuses on the old US Canal Zone Area. Lots of empty homes that once housed US military personnel.
The economy was badly hurt when the Canal was turned over to Panama.
The buses then stop at a new shopping area for a brief "visit", then back to the train for the ride back to the ship.

Folks from our ship that traversed the canal by boat said it was a wondeful experience.
