Someone asked so here's a mini review (9/24 Merc Pacific NW:
Our trip was very enjoyable--just a 5 day trip around Vancouver Island. We flew from NY & sailed from Seattle. Our first day in that beautiful & people- friendly city was marred by loss of ALL of our luggage by SW airlines. That was our see Seattle day & although they kept assuring us the luggage would arrive, it didnt until in the middle of the night. We did see Seattle but settled on a neighborhood rest in the Quene Anne area instead of a fancy dinner out--turned out to be a good choice. Seattle is a good port!
We boarded early--very smooth process. Trip went to Astoria Oregon (not much there at all--a very depressed area--not a great port), sailed around Vancouver Island. Loved Nainamo & Victoria where we went to Buchart Gardens & a winery on a tour. have some great photos--weather cooperated lucky for us!
Had great people in our cc cruise group & met other nice folks on board mostly from west Coast. The ship was very clean--almost spotless although worn a bit--our bathroom sink had a noticeable crack but was functional, our sofa bed was broken which affected ability to sit on it as a couch & the bedspread/drapes had not changed since our last trip--all dated & worn. other than that NO compaints at all.
We enjoyed concierge class very much--little snacks before dinner each day, fruits, champagne & great service by our cabin stewards. Had first seating which ran smoothly--after a bad table assignment first at a very aft location which we switched to avoid vibration & then at a large table which we had not requested, we switched & had a table for 4 with a great couple from Calif whose company we enjoyed each dinner time. Excellent service--good to excellent food--skimpy on veggies but could have asked for more-They did not take lobster out of shell at the table--was done in advance at the stations--baked alaska night was fun!
We took a 5 day pass to the T pool--it was really great--not to be missed---Also enjoyed all the music on board--OK party band & loved the chamber group--forget their name but had them on another cruise before...Due to change in time zones we turned in fairly early so can't say much else about night life on board--We did enjoy the Anniv party--cruise director was very pleasant & funny-- Shows not a big thing for us --We saw a comedian one night..who did fart jokes (pardon me) & we walked out--not our taste at all.
All in all a very nice experience--we'll be back on Merc in 07 to Mex Riv so I hope they do a bit of spiffing it up! If you have a any specific quest let me know--
Thanks for the review. Mercury was our second cruise awhile ago and we really enjoyed her then. It is great to know she is still a great ship. We did a similar itinerary in May of this year and we enjoyed it very much. Victoria was my favorite stop.
