Just Purchased tux for Mar 9 Century. Salesman talked wife into long tie with white shirt french cuffs. I prefer older style bow tie with cumberbun studs and cuff links or vest. Please give us some feedback. We have been on about 12 cruises this is 3rd in Century but always wear dark suit so never realy notice the particulars about tuxedos.
Hi. Finally, something I can comment on. I like to wear my tux on formal nights on Celebrity ships since I own one and don't have all that many occassions to wear it. I have the traditional black tux jacket, pants and shoes, but I wear a non-tux shirt and a shiny black, long tie. I also have a black tux vest that I wear 75% of the time with the above. I think it looks good and it's a little different. My friends mostly wear the old bow ties and cumberbuns, and there is nothing wrong with that look--it's classic. But, I think you should give the long tie a chance.

My husband I attend about 6 black tie events a year and more men wear the bow tie and vest combo than any other. However, the long tie and vest is EXTREMELY hip and VERY acceptable.
I agree with Mike. Two totally different looks and both will look great.

After marrying off three daughters and traveling on 14 cruises I have assembled a half closet full of tuxedos, dinner jackets, shirts and accesories to go with.
At one point I brought more than one on each cruise but with baggage allowance weights down I now pack one tux. I vary the "look" with the accessories , ties and shirts. For example, One night I'll go bowtie and cumberbund, one night different shirt with a black "long" tie and on a longer cruise with 3 formals I'll do a silver shirt and tie (long). On cruises where I've found formal to be somewhat less formal than others I have worn black or white silk mock turtleneck with the tux as well. To each his own, I find trying to keep in the spirit of the formal night is what we enjoy most.
Most cruises have two or three formal nights. I crusie a lot and have a selection of ties and vests. I wear a a regular black tie one night. Did you see the awards show last night. I saw fewer bow ties than in previous years.
I love the long tie look. it will make you look so much better and it is so much more hip. in a couple years form now what is the only one that you will see people wear on the cruise. u are ahead of the pack
How about the dude at the Awards who wore blue jeans with his black jacket?? Good Lord!!! Everyone on here pretty much knows I am a casual sort of person, but I would DIE appearing anywhere looking like that!!!!
