Default Electronic Luggage Tags

I am booked on the October 8th Panama Canal cruise on the Infinity. I am getting something called electronic luggage tags. Has anyone heard of them? What are they and what is their function? Thanks

Have not heard of electronic luggage tags. From whom are you getting them and why?

I got some information from my travel agent. They are for this particular cruise and allow you to check in faster at the pier. You drop your bags and board the ship. Thanks for your response

Pretty soon we'll all have a chip implanted in our ear that will have all our personal and biometric information on it. That will really speed things up, but will that be good?

Shorebreak,

Yes, it's part of the electronic cruise documents that you download via the 'net and print yourself. One of the pages has a bar code on it. When you get to the luggage drop-off at the pier, Celebrity's staff scan the bar code and print regular luggage tage that they affix to your luggage.

BTW, be sure to download electronic cruise documents on a computer that has a printer conected to it. You get exactly ONE download.

Norm.

Yes but unless things have changed it is a PDF file and you can save it to your hard drive.

Yes, it's possible to do that, but I would not give such advice on these boards. The members of CruiseMates span the gamut from very sophisticated hackers who develop advanced software in their sleep to novices who can barely run Office, Outlook, and Internet Explorer. I have visions some novice attempting to save it to a hard drive on a system that does not have a printer, then (1) not knowing where on the hard drive they saved it, or (2) not knowing how to load it back into Acrobat Reader to prnt it when they can plug into a printer, or (3) not knowing how to move it to another system that does have a printer, or (4) saving it to a directory for temporary files that their systems delete when they shut down, or losing the document in any of several other ways -- and that's if they actually manage to save the file successfully. After bailing out novices who have done such things on more than a few occasions, I can tell you from experience that it's much easier to post the fail-safe method on a message board like this than to bail out novices who mess up.

Norm.

Shorebrook,
I don't know where you are going, but if you are getting an "E-Ticket", I would advise you to take that luggage tag and make copies of it for each bag and attach it to the bag before you leave home or after you get to your pre cruise hotel. I wouldn't rely on tags at the pier. Tags at the pier is OK unless they ask you to throw your luggage into the back of a big truck with 100 other bags to go to the pier from the Airport. Now go find you bag at the pier to put the luggage tag on.
