Default When to request upgrade?

Hello everyone!

Background info: This is my third time cruising, 1st was for high school graduation on the Century in May 2000, 2nd was for my honeymoon on RCL Explorer of the Seas May 2005, this time is on Century sailing December 21st.

I've never requested an upgrade. The 1st time my grandmother booked us on the 8th deck, ocean view. It was beautiful! I really loved the view. The second time we were on the ninth deck with another gorgeous view. This time I didn't want to spend so much so we're on the 5th deck, ocean view. I assume it'll be a porthole. The closer we get to sailing, the more I worry about this.

I'm worried we'll get worse service on this deck than we previously received (unfortunatly people tend to assume because we're 24 we won't tip well and will in general be hard to please, when quite the opposite is true. When booking higher level staterooms it's more assumed we're not the typical twenty-somethings.)

I'm also worried about being so far from all the action.

Should I call and ask for an upgrade? Or wait until we board? Would it be worth paying for the upgrade?

Oh, one more thing. I registered for the captain's club at the same time I booked. I now know I should have requested my upgrade then, but they didn't tell me that. Did I miss out on an upgrade?

Thanks for any advice.

No, it's not too late, just tell them you are Captain's Club and shouldn't you get the one category upgrade. The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago for Century sailing 11/13 and I just called them back. I have had good service on Celebrity no matter what category I booked.

Regardless of the cabin - you will get outstanding service.

Just because you spend a little less money on a cabin does not mean the service is decreased. We ONLY sail in inside cabins, the least expensive I can book. This way I can cruise more. We have had balcony cabins, outside cabins, etc and the service is always the same. I feel I don't need a window because we are never in the cabin. The money I save just helps me to cruise more.

Happy sailing!

Marion is exactly correct. The cabin, and deck you're on makes no difference as far as the level of service goes. This is especially true with "Celebrity". Service is outstanding, regardless.
Call and ask what type of "window" you'll have with the cabin you are currently booked in, and use that as the determining factor in whether you upgrade or not.
Have a great cruise. (I have no doubt that you will)

Since it is a Christmas Cruise, don't get bummed out if you don't get upgraded. They are getting rarer and rarer on Celebrity, I hear. But they do occur! Hope springs....

Good luck.

Personally, I am trying to justify an upgrade from a Sky Deck CC to a Sky Suite on Deck 6 (Penthouse Deck), just so I can lay out on my own balcony in the sun. AT DOUBLE THE PRICE....my "little voice" is saying "no, no, no....."

If you decide you do want an upgrade, don't wait until you get to the pier. Lately, there haven't been any available. The other posters are correct, the service on Celebrity is great, you will enjoy your cruise whether you upgrade or not

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the great comments. I remember Celebrity's service very well! The RCI cruise last year was great, but I did notice how far above and heyond Celebrity went with service.

I called and they said you do not get the free upgrade for being a part of the Captain's Club on holiday cruises. However, they were running a promotion on GTY verandas, so I spent $800 to upgrade us to that. If we'd booked a veranda from the start, I'd have spend at least $1800 more, so we saved $1000! Yippee. We're already assigned to 8197. Great location, right?

I'm so excited I've already started making my lists (things to do, things to buy, things to pack, etc.) I found the one here and it's been a great starting point!

I agree..it doesn't matter where you are on Celebrity you are going to get top notch service. I just cruised on Galaxy and it was perfection.

Softestacia, just so you know in case you book an Ocean View in the future, the windows are not portholes. We have always had Ocean View cabins on both Celebrity and RCI and the windows are large, taking up almost the entire end wall (opposite the door). The beds are king size, even though the brochure says "queen".
Except for one cruise, (Galaxy, deck 8) we have always been on deck 2 or 3 and the cabins have been very nice and the service excellent on both lines.
We are on deck 4 in Jan., a tiny upgrade due to our elevation in the Captains Club, which mirrored our elevation in Crown & Anchor. One of these days we might bring ourselves to fork over the extra $$$ for a balcony. We just keep thinking how many excursions the savings would buy and we aren't in the room much anyway.
