Default Dress code when in port?

Hello all,

Someone just told me that Celebrity has a dress code when getting off the ship in port, no shoulders or knees showing, is this true?

I was planning on shorts and tee shirts... Now I may have to rethink.

Thanks

Joanna.

That is a new one to me. Maybe they meant in the dinning room for dinner?

I know that some ports/tours discourage shorts and bare sholders in churches, temples, places of worship, etc.

In some cities in Europe, folks do not wear shorts/T-shirts. So you try to blend in with the regulars and try not to stand out as a "insensitive American tourist".

The tour packages usually alert you to the proper dress codes.

What to Pack

Whether on the ship or in a port of call, stylish resort wear is fine for both men and women. For warmer climates, this includes walking shorts and polo shirts, swim suits and cover-ups, lightweight slacks or skirts, and a light sweater. When visiting cooler climates, casual clothing that can be easily layered for warmth or comfort is recommended, along with a raincoat or umbrella, waterproof hat and gloves.

On all Celebrity cruises, it's wise to bring along comfortable, rubber-soled shoes, hat, sunglasses and a good sunscreen. Remember to pack any prescription medications or other personal care items you'll need.

I see from your previous posts that you are booked on the Millennium, on an Eastern Caribbean cruise. The type of dress you describe is completely appropriate for shore and day wear on the ship.

Don't be intimidated about the "dress code" issue.

Take care,
Mike

Shorts and Tee shirts are fine in the Caribbean. Quite frankly, if you didn't wear them you would be out of place and probably uncomfortable.

Celebrity does not prescribe a dress code in port, but some shore excursions have dress codes imposed by the places that they visit. The dress code that you describe sounds like the dress code imposed by churches in Italy and perhaps in other Mediterranean countries, which would extend to shore excursions that visit those churches across all cruise lines.

That depends where you are going. If you are going to the Mediterranean, tops that cover your shoulders and skirts that come below your knees would be a good idea.

Well, whoever told you that is nuts. Thats all I wear! Comfortable shoes, shorts and a t-shirt; sometimes even a tank. Tell your friend they are thinking of perhaps the "formal" night.

Norm is correct, Bermuda also used to have a dress code but that really doesn't apply anymore.
