Default Dress for Panama Canal Cruise in Feb

Sailing on Feb 3 on Summit from LA to FLL. What will the weather be like? I need help with the type of clothes to pack? Real summer? Fall?
This will be cruise number 12 for us but the first one that I'm unsure about what to bring for two weeks.
Thanks.
Dianne

Shorts, shorts and more shorts.

Cool/nice out of LA (68^F Ave high) getting warmer as you head south. It will be hot and humid with an occassional shower down in the Canal area. February is the Summer for Panama. Can get 90^F.

Should be nice through the Gulf.

Average temp in FLL is 77^F in February.

The first post in this thread contains packing lists that are about right for your cruise.

The first day at sea, when the ship will be off the Baja Peninsula, probably will be a bit cool, such that you may want a sweater or light jacket on deck. The ship will be in the tropics from the port of call in Cabo San Lucas until sometime during the last day at sea, just before reaching Port Everglades. The area off the coast of Florida tends to be warm (normal temperatures in the 70's) most of the time, but you might want a sweater or light jacket if you encounter extremely cool weather.

Norm.

Ah, actually not -- and sorry that I missed this earlier. In the Americas, the equator passes through Equador (literally, the Spanish word for "equator"), clips the southern tip of Columbia, and passes through the sidest part of Brazil, meeting the Atlantic at the mouth of the Amazon River. Panama, including the Canal Zone, is entirely within the northern hemsiphere, so its "winter" starts in December and ends in March.

That said, Panama's winters are very warm by virture of being in the tropics.

January and February are the beginning of the summer season for Panama. Panama only has two seasons, winter and summer."

"Panama has two seasons, the rainy and the dry. The dry season lasts mid-December–mid-April and is Panama’s “summer.? "

Congratulations. You have proven that some people who post on Yahoo are full of misinformation.

Factually, the summer in the entire northern hemisphere is from the solstice in June to the equinox in September, and Panama is in the northern hemisphere.

And also factually, the weather in the tropics does not change much. On islands in the tropics, high temperatures tend to be in the mid-80's and low temperatures tend to be around 70, both Fahrenheit, all year. On continents, daytime highs may be about ten degrees higher. The summer does tend to be considerably more humid than the winter, though.

Norm.
