Default Zenith

I realize the Zenith is being sold. We are booked on the 4/2/07 sailing of her! It's an 11 night cruise of the E. Caribbean! I'm excited. I was just wondering if anyone had been on her recently. What did you think of the service and the condition of her?

Actually, there's no sale involved. Rather, the parent company is reassigning MV Zenith to a newly acquired Spanish sister line, Pullmantur Cruises. Surprisingly, it appears that she will retain her present name.

The parent company also has announced reassignment of Pullmantur's MV Blue Dream and MV Blue Moon, which are considerably newer than MV Zenith, from Pullmantur Cruises to Celebrity Cruises. These vessels, which respectively began service for Renaissance Cruises in 2000 as MV R6 and MV R7, will become MV Celebrity Journey and MV Celebrity Quest, also respectively, after major reconfiguration and refurbishment. The reconfiguration will repace forty-eight (48) of the ship's standard balcony cabins with thirty-two (32) small suites, reducing capacity by thirty-two (32) passengers. Once reconfigured, these vessels will displace 30,277 tons and carry 710 passengers (double occupancy) and apply Celebrity's branding to many of the existing facilities.

Sorry - I miss "spoke". You are correct! Anyway - I'd love to hear from anyone who is on this 4/2/07 sailing or anyone who has been on this ship recently.

We were on the Zenith in October to Bermuda....we had a great time, no major complaints, service/food was excellent, ship showed her age a little, some of the lounges were a little dated, no specialty restaurant, no balconies, but we still loved it. Would book it again if it wasn't being transferred out.

Was on Zenith in March for the first time. Wife and I loved it. A nice little ship that's in good shape for her age. Booked it again.

I sailed on the Zenith way back when it was new. Always wanted to go back and was just on the Jan. 19 -29th 10 day sailing.
The ship, for the most part has been well cared for. The interior ( at least in my opinion and the areas I saw ) was clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The food in the dining room was good
as was the dining room service. On sea days the buffet can get a little crowded , especially around noon but with a little searching seats can always be found. The buffet food is basically buffet food. The scrambled eggs left something to be desired but hey-- nothings perfect. Any shortcomings in the basic buffet food was overshadowed by the excellent desserts. I surely didn't go hungry.
I'm not a big eater of french fries but I have to say that the fries served on the back outdoor grille are the best I have ever eaten. I heard several people say the same.

I had no complaints but there was one thing that was an irritation that I think they could have easily corrected. The Fleet Bar ( forward on Marina deck ) has wrap-around floor to ceiling windows. The first time we sailed Zenith, this area was used a lot both day and night. During the day you could sit, read, watch the ocean, etc. This particular time I noticed it was not used nearly as much and I think I know why. The floor to ceiling windows looked like they hadn't been cleaned in forever and looking through them was like looking through frosted glass.
Now I know that keeping the salt spray off windows on a ship in a trying job but on the Zenith there is a wrap around deck right outside the windows so it would have been a small job for someone to give them a quick sqweegee job. I would have done it myself but couldn't find a bucket and sqweegee !! But don't mistake my comment about the dirty Fleet Bar windows as a complaint-- it's not-- just as I said, an irritation.
I'm happy we got to sail the Zenith again before it sails off into history, which is where it's headed.
If you can get by without rock climbing walls, surfing, pool tables, boxing rings, etc., etc., etc. and can be content with a mid-sized ship that feels like a ship, like good food, like to meet people , etc. then you will have a great cruise. I would go again tomorrow if it were possible.

Thanks for your wonderful post, Ron. I am very excited about being on a smaller ship again. Since we just got 11 inches of snow in the past 2 days, I'm really ready to go! If there is anything else you'd like to share about the Zenith, I'm eager to hear it!

One of the things I like about Zenith is the location of the hot tubs on deck 12 aft, instead of the main pool area. This aera is less crowded & a great palce to lay if you want piece & quiet.

The Fleet bar is also one of my favorite places. The windows were fine when we sailed her last August. Sorry to hear that has changed.

We've found that the Zenith crew does have a sort of closeness that you don't see on the larger ships. We were on her in 2005 & when we sailed again in 2006 there were more than one crew member who remembered us from the previous year! (maybe because our bar bill was so high!

I think we will also like the smaller ship because we will see staff members more frequently. I know when we were on the Radiance of the Seas last year, we ran into the same staff members over and over again. You don't do that as much on the LARGE ships. Unless you go only to the same place over and over. I have heard the Fleet Bar is a wonderful place to chill during the day!

Do you happen to know how many hot tubs are up on that deck and how late they were opened?

Also - Are there fridges in the cabins? We have an OV on deck 5.

We just retuned off of the January 29th 11 night Eastern Carib cruise onboard the Zenith, service was good, ship was rusty, dirty and in need of repairs carpets held together outside of casino with tape and elsewhere on the ship. Crew OK but not happy because they are being sent home and do not know when they will be called back. For the Money it was not bad but ship is well worn and nothing being done to keep it up as a matter of fact the windows by the pool were filthy you could not see out of them. Never washed during entire trip, mold in shower.

Islands and itinery great that is why we went for the itineraryy.

There are 3 hot tubs & I am 99% sure that they're open until 8pm.
Ther aren't any fridges in the outside cabins on Zenith. I think that the CC cabins & suites only have fridges.

Default Zenith

cruisequeen,

I was on the Zeniith this last Dec. (2006) to the Western Caribbean(10-days). I love that ship! The service was fantasic. I had a Zenith Suite with butler, and I couldn't have asked for better service. The food is also good on Zenith. There also seems to be a true loyal spirit for the Zenith from the crew, at their shows and even in the ship's daily program. I enjoyed this trip immensely. Have fun! Jini

I just found out that they are doing some carpet laying and reupolstering of the furniture on the Zenith. Someone who is on her the past week said there were many repairs and updating going on! Glad to hear that!

I am disappointed there are no fridges in the OV cabins! I will survive without it. Thanks for the info about the hot tubs! Maybe they won't be so crowded and we can use them this time. AND maybe no kids in there!

I can not wait to go. We sail 4/2/07 for 11 nights! It has been cold and either snowy or icey here and I'm ready to get out of all this!
