Default Dance classes on Celebrity?

I have heard that there are no ballroom or latin dance classes on Celebrity Cruises, nor are there any bands to play social music for dancing in the afternoons or evenings. Is this the case?

We're Princess and P&O Cruisers but are planning to take our first cruise with Celebrity and we'll be so disappointed if this is so! We've always enjoyed having the time on a cruise to take dance classes - very good exercise and very sociable!

No, absolutely not.

>> 1. The lounge known as "Rendezvous Square" has live music for ballroom dancing every evening, and it's usually quite good.

>> 2. On each ship, one of the "Celebrity Dancers" also teaches ballroom dancing classes.

But if you wan to learn ballroom dancing, it's best to go to a ballroom dance studio. Arthur Murray Dance Studios and Fred Astaire Dance Studios are pretty ubiquitous and generally solid. The classes aboard ship are very rudimentary and seldom teach good styling and technique on any cruise line.

Well, the live music is not continuous for eight hours on Celebrity as it is on Princess. Nonetheless, there is live music for ballroom dancing at the times when the majority of passengers would take advantage of it.

Excellent information! Thanks for taking the time, Norm.

Alas, I don't think we have Arthur Murray or Fred Astaire dance classes in Great Britain (both sound intriguing) but I'm sure I can find something similar in London.

Surprise! According to the web site, one is "Opening Soon"....

Arthur Murray Dance Studio
77 Baker Street
London, England W1 U6RF

Unfortunately, the web site does not list a telephone number yet, but I presume that "soon" means that the franchisee is in the process of setting up the studio.

Norm.

There ARE bands which play social music and dance lessons as well. We actually met the dance instructors on our last cruise, which was the Mercury. I know that on the Constellation, the band's music (we thought) was better.

Don't know who told you that, just returned from 10 nights on Millenium in the Med and there were dance classes on every sea day (salsa, swing, cha cha etc) plus the band played for dancing every night and the floor was always full. made me quite envious that my partner and I don't dance although we did try the salsa class - great fun!
