Summit in need of refurbishment?

If you have recently sailed on the Summit, I would
appreciate a little help. Of course I expect some wear
on a ship having 2000 passengers onboard every week.
But, I'm reading about cabins extremely worn, T-Pool
brown muck in the water, many stains in the theater seats.
I certainly don't want to book this ship if the above is true.
Please help!

We cruised on Summit on the positioning cruise at the end of the Alaska season 2006 and found all to be perfectly acceptable on board. I'm sure some can find lots to complain about, but personally, I enjoyed our 15 days aboard.

We sailed on the Summit repositioning cruise in May of 2006. The ship did show some signs of wear but nothing major that I saw. Our biggest complaint that our CC cabin reeked of cigarette smoke. The room steward tried to get rid of it but the smell always came back after a few days. Unfortunately ship maintenance is not one of Celebrity's long suits. The service on Celebrity remains the best thing about them.

In all my years on various boards this is the first post I have heard of where the smell of smoke could not be taken from the room. Everyone in the past has complemented Celebrity and other lines in the manner in which they remove smoke odors from a stateroom. Also, Celebrity has always been known for their high maintenance as one of their strong suits which is contrary to what this poster says.

I think I did say the Summit was in fairly good condition. The maintenance issues on other ships, the two worst examples of poor maintenance are probably the Galaxy and Mercury, which both have long standing problems, with many complaints about mold in the bathrooms, exercise equipment on the Mercury that has not worked for long periods, along with numerous long standing problems on the Galaxy. I have sailed many other cruise lines and never encountered any near as many maintenance issues. I think it comes down to your personal expectations of the condition you expect to find your cruise ship in.
