Default Millenium Prop incident??

Any news about the alleged damaged prop on Millenium? A poster on another board was on board the ship --the propeller apparenly hit rocks in the port of Villefranche & they have missed Florence, will travel at 11 knots...No one seems to have any info at this point...I am not trying to spread rumors but repeating what was posted already elsewhere! If anyone has any info pls post..there are some nervous folks hoping there cruise won't be cancelled next week

There is a thread from a Millie passenger on CC that eventually says they missed two ports, but the next cruise will be go as planned. Good thing, too, because several pax on the next cruise were almost panicking.

As of today, there's news -- in the form of a travel alert on Celebrity's web site. Here are the major points.

* The ship's propellers hit a submerged rock that damaged three (3) of the four (4) blades of the starboard propeller and one (1) of the four (4) blade of the port propeller, apparently due to an electrical malfunction (!). Celebrity had hoped that divers would be able to repair the damage, but apparently discovered that a drydock is necessary when divers went down to look at the damage.

* Celebrity ahs cancelled the rest of the current cruise and the next cruise. The ship will go into drydock for repairs, returning to service on 24 July 2007.

* Celebrity is compensating the affected passengers pretty generously.

>> Passengers on the current cruise, which would have ended on the 12th, will receive "onboard credit and toher compensation" equal to the cruise fare, a futre cruise credit worth 50% of the fare, and assistance in obtaining transportation home.

>> Passengers booked on the next cruise, which would have begun on the 12th, will receive a full refund plus a future cruise credit equal to the fare.

I really have to give Celebrity credit for stepping up to the plate and giving people just compensation when incidents like this disrupt their vacation plans.

Norm.
