While I have not done the land portion of Alaska, I think it would add a great deal to the Alaska experience. Does any portion of your trip include the train trip?

I’m planning on taking the Celebrity Milleninum to Alaska in August 2008 which includes a land package prior to the Cruise.
The land package is 3 nights with 1 night each in Anchorage, Denali and Talkeetna. The travel on the land portion is by Motorcoach. The cruise begins in Seward and ends in Vancouver.
Any comments on the Celebrity Land Package will be appreciated.
I have done that trip six times now and would say that in my opinion the tour that you described would have you spending far too much time on a bus. We took the train once and have driven from Anchorage to Denali five times. Renting a car would give you so much more time in Denali to see all of the wonders that are there.
Going up and going back you will pass Talkeenta and could spend an hour or two there if you wished. For me the "big show" is Denali and deserves at least two days to even to begin to explore the wonders of that park and the surrounding areas.
If you wanted to try the train there is a coupon in the Alaskan toursaver book that will give you buy one get one free for the train ride to Denali and two nights lodging. The down side here is that when you get to Denali you don't have a car.
Going on your own is very easy and would also save you a lot of money.
Hope this helps.
