It appears that she'll be out of service from the completion of a Transatlantic cruise on 10 April 2008 until the start of a "Best of Europe" cruise on 29 April 2008. IOW, she'll be out of service for less than three weeks.
Drydocking is a very important event in the maintenance of a ship, as it's the only way to clean and paint the underwater portion of the hull and to service other underwater elements such as screws, shafts, rudders, pods, and external bearings. The better cruise lines also take advantage of this time, when no passengers are aboard, to refurbish public areas, to do topside maintenance and repairs that require the shipyard's cranes and other resources, and to make any significant changes to the ship's configuration that seem desirable.
When GTS
Infinity went into drydock for her last pod replacement in September of 2006, for example, the shipyard removed the rails surrounding the opening in the deck between the Martini Bar/Champagne Bar and the Rendez-Vous Lounge below and welded a plug flush with the deck into the hole to separate the spaces. A round patch of contrasting carpet over the plug and a grand piano in the center of the plug finished the job, uniting the Martini Bar/Champagne Bar and turning that space into a piano lounge. It seems likely that GTS
Summit will receive the same modification during the upcoming drydocking.
And I seriously hope that Celebrity will get rid of the trashy decor in the observation lounge/disco that's the last remnant of the "Cirque du Soleil" debacle. It has about as much class as a freshly "toilet papered" college dorm room.
