Default Fuel Surchage upped again as of July 1

Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have increased their fuel supplements again as of July 1. Basically they are up to $10 from $8 for 1st and 2nd., $5 from $3 for 3rd and 4th.

$20 per day for fuel, $20 per day to park. For a 10 day cruise, that's $400. Add that to the gratuities and your onboard account plus shore excursions and you just about double the price of the cruise  Our annual cruise may well start being bi-annual unless the Canadian Gov. doubles our pensions!

We are in a mess, not only does it cost more to cruise, but it costs more to stay at home. Every day the price of just about everything is going up.

I'm close to retirement, but the cost of living is making things rather difficult.

I see where Carnival is now charging $10 per day for first 2 passengers, so it's just a matter of time before the others follow suite. Maybe I'm a little synical but I'm thinking this fuel surcharge has turned into a cash cow for the cruise lines. I know fuel prices are out of site but I'm wondering just how much it cost to move and operate a 100,000 ton ship. A 3,000 passenger ship is going to rake in somewhere between $25,000 and $30,000 per cruise. And I noticed a few cruise lines (not TA's) are offering on-board credits that equal the fuel surcharge. Go figure.

The new fuel surcharges are

>> $10.00 Per Passenger Per Day, with a maximum of $140.00 per passenger, for the first two passengers in a cabin and

>> $5.00 Per Passenger Per Day, with a maximum of $70.00 per passenger, for third and fourth passengers in a cabin.

The maximums basically mean that the surcharges apply only to the first fourteen (14) days of each cruise. Some Hawai'i round trip, Hawai'i to New Zealand (or reverse), Panama Canal, and Transatlantic itineraries) are longer than fourteen days.

The surcharge actually may be lower depending on when you booked. The above that Norm posted is the latest change. Check the website and corrospond it with the date you booked.
