Wondering if walkie talkies are useful on board (Celebrity)? If so anyone know what the limitations are?
Do you have to be on the same deck?
Is it possible to rent a mobile phone in the states before we leave that will function in Spain, France, Greece & Italy? If so, appreciate all tips on where to rent a phone for ~ 3 - 4 weeks.
For onboard communication, if you really need it, then a GSM walkie talkie is the best way to go. You can use a cell phone but it will be a minimum of $2.49/minute. Walkie talkies are free and will give you fairly good range on the ship. It is a good thing to observe etiquette with the walkie talkies and respect others when using them.
A GSM phone such as AT&T will work in Europe, just make sure you have International Roaming added to your plan. Providers such as Verizon are CDMA and may or may not work in Europe.

Just a reminder that in some european countries the walkie-talkie (frequency) might interfere with the emergency-lines. Therefore they are forbidden to use in some countries. Better check before bringing them with you ahore.
Last fall I toured Italy with a cell phone that I purchased online at https://www.telestial.com. It was inexpensive to purchase although to add more minutes it was expensive. I liked the fact that we could leave a phone number with folks at home before we went.
