We are arriving on Celebrities Summit in Barcelona at 7:00am they have us booked to fly out a 10:00 am. I dont think this will give us enough time to clear the ship and then go through international security. We asked Celebrity to give us a later flight and they will only do it if we pay and extra $150.00. They assure us that we have plenty of time to catch the flight and if not they will put us on the next flight out. If it's not full. The ship doesn't usually clear until 9:00 am and since they booked us too early I'm not sure why we have to pay the extra charge to change planes. Any advice about this?
Unless something really peculiar occurs you'll have no problem making a 10 AM flight.
European sailings genarally get into their disembark ports much earlier than posted "normal" times. I'm betting you'll be off the ship, and heading to the airport before 7 AM.
As for the way the cruise lines handle air arragements. They contract with the airlines for seats at reduced rates (and do make profit on your air bookings), and they book you into the "contracted seats".
The charge to deviate from their air arrangements is a basic service fee they choose to charge for the extra work involved in rebooking you for flights that you choose).
"Service fees" are a pain in "patooie", but they're not really any different than say an airline which charges you more to book a flight on the telephone than if you do it on their web site.
