If you are looking for affordable hotel rates, be aware that many chains, including Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, now offer major discounts -- often 50% to 60% or more off rack rates -- for nonrefundable prepayment at least two weeks in advance. For an upcoming stockholders' meeting in Orlando, I got a rate less than $82 for two nights at the Crowne Plaza Orlando International Airport. That's less than typical rates at a lot of Days Inns and other "economy" hotels.
That's pretty good. We just booked the Renaissance - which is along Hotel row on SE 17th St - next door to the Crowne Hilton. But we got a room for $143.
That is $100 less than the Crowne Hilton right next door. We just booked this week (last week of August).
