If you have not done a cruise to Alaska, you really need to go there at least once while you are still active and able-bodied. It's not a beach destination, for sure, but each of Alaksa's major ports of call offer more diversity of activities and choices of shore excursions than any of the major cities in Europe.
So what does Alaksa have to offer?
>> 1. Spectacular Terrain. (Tip: If there's a chance to ride a train anywhere in Alaska, be on it!)
>> 2. The Best of Nature, both Flora and Fauna (Land, Sea, Air).
>> 3. Indigenous Cultures (Inuit, Tlingit, Aleut, Eskimo, etc.).
>> 4. Russian Heritage (Major Presence in Sitka & Juneau).
>> 5. Gold Rush Heritage (Skagway, Juneau, Fairbanks).
>> 6. Salmon & Timber Industries.
>> 7. Military Heritage.
>> 8. Modern Petroleum Industry (Pipeline, Oil Fields).
>> 9. Extreme Adventure (Fishing, Sea Kayaking, Ziplining, Etc.)
And be sure to plan a couple days in the magnificent cosmopolitan city of Anchorage, with its street festivals, open air market, shopping, and great restaurants. It's very close to Alaska!
