Default Open Dining by September

Celebrity will institute a combination of traditional and open dining by September. What will make Celebrity's different is that if you choose open you may pick a time and make a reservation.

Here's another article by the same author on the changes between Solstice and Equinox. Not many but there are some.

We allways did ok with traditional dining. I hope that they don't mess up a good thing.

We do too Manuel. We prefer the early seating and a table for 2. We always get the 2-top, and in a great location.

I read that the Anytime Dining would not be recommended for pax who like the tables for 2. I guess once in awhile we'll give it a shot if an excursion runs late, as they do in Europe, etc.

I also like having the same food service personnel every day and them getting to know what I like / don't like, etc.

I'm glad this option works for other =X= pax, though. From reading these articles, it sounds like they put a lot of thought into this.

Since we are sailing on Infinity in October, I emailed our TA today and asked about how to go about getting this option, as we are already confirmed for second seating.

She wrote back that as of now, Celebrity apparently isn't set up to process this type of request. She said to try again in September.

We shall see. If I recall from the verbiage on the Celebrity site when this was inadvetently disclosed, if you choose this option, you need to pre-pay (read last payment) your gratuities, which makes sense.

Hi Sid:

When they accidentally released the info, the only difference with the tipping was if you chose the open dining, you could not remove the tips from your ships account. It was not prepaid tipping which is paid prior to the cruise.

Also, the link that I had posted on this was only an interview with personnel from Celebrity by a journalist. Nothing has been announced yet by Celebrity and details of how it will worked are probably being worked on as we speak. Anthing we say on these boards is really only speculation until it is officially announced.

I have allways enjoyed our cruises on Celebrity before they made all these changes. I certainly hope that they don't reduce the quality of their cruises by making things more complicated.

I have to agree with Manuel. We have been on 2 Princess cruises, 2006 and 2007, and the anytime dining seemed very inconsistent and unreliable. There was always a line up unless you dined really late and the female Maitre D was stressed to the limit trying to handle disgrunteld passengers. If you're late getting back to the ship, there's always the alternative dining on the Lido as well as a small but wonderful Asian buffet....and pasta....and pizza. As the saying goes..if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
