Default What's This? =X= Porter Service?

So today I hear from two Cruisemates, both completed different X cruises this month. Both cruisers are going on and on about this new porter service for $20 and how efficient and "perfect" it is.

Just now, I called my Celebrity Captain's Club rep and she read to me the new policy, it's actually called, "Celebrity Valet Service". The cost is $20. The limit is two bags per passenger. The night before disembarkation, your bags are whisked away for you. You are given a claim check / voucher for your bags. When disembarking, you do not have to find your luggage along with hundreds / thousands of other passengers looking through a myriad of luggage at the pier!

This is a great service for those who have a late boarding and want to spend time touring the area...equally for those with an early AM flight.

Can't wait to try this service out and report back on the efficiency and service! Good news though...anything to assist with a stress-free disembarkation.

Triton, do you mean the night before disembarkation?

Please be aware we tried to use this service before on a celebrity cruise..and at the last minute was informed ... "due to the Lack of participation among our fellow cruisers.. this service would not be offered"

Turns out the cruise line needs a certain number of pax to participate for it to be a go..
The way I understand it ..they take your luggage.. TSA screens it and it is kept In a sterile environment and transported from ship to airport so you don't see it again till your final destination.[/u]

I certainly hope this catches on. I am not a young guy anymore and the less I handle my suitcases the better.

That sounds like a great idea. I wonder how they deal with the baggage charges for each airline. Maybe you give them your credit card number? Plus there's the chance you might have an overweight bag and there is additional charges for that as well. They have to have a way to deal with that.

OK, Just hung up with =X= again...I had more questions too...

1) This service can only be ordered once onboard your ship;
2) In completing the forms onboard, they will ask for your credit card for any appropriate baggage fees / overweight fees;
3) This is available in most of the busiest ports he said. I didn't write them all down, but some were: San Diego, Miami, Ft. Everglades, Seattle, etc.
4) The ONLY airlines that contract with X are: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta & United Airlines.
5) It does not matter if you use X's transfer shuttle to the airport or if you have a hired driver / limo / cab...they will get your bags to the airport.

Lastly, I have heard from three more cruisemates who have used this service on X and loved it...5 great reports, so we WILL be trying this out at the end of our next cruise.
