it all depends on why you cruise... if you are looking for great service terrific food a staff that seems eager to please.. then Celebrity may be for you... if you want a party all the time atmosphere.. i would look elsewhere

we would do Carnival but they don't offer European cruises next year~and even if they did, they can't come close to the itineraries Celebrity and Royal can offer.

i've heard "good food and good service" on Celebrity. i hope we're not disappointed!

most of the ports i've been to~sicily and rhodes are the only ones i haven't been to.

i was really interested in hearing what you all have to say regarding decor, layout, service, staff, shows, food, etc. it will be on the Celebrity Equinox *also excited about sailing a brand new ship!*

Default CRUISE

OH CUTIECAT...there is no doubt that you should do the Equinox.. we are, but October 18th next year.. Besides..it will be more romantic and fun to do it with your new husband, by your side... and to revisit favorite spots.. One of the most romantic memories I have is Parrot Pop and I walking hand in hand like two little lovers down the side streets of St. George in Bermuda.. Our life has been flled with great memories.. and I hope yours is too

Cutiecat:

Celebrity definitely gets our vote. My first cruise 24 years ago was on Carnival...and I haven't been back. My very last cruise was on Princess to the Amazon. I've taken more cruises than I can count on Celebrity and we're going again next month!

Last year my partner's parents were celebrating their 50th anniversary and wanted to take all the "1st and 2nd generations" on a cruise. There was only 22 of us...but they asked us to make all of the travel plans and choices, because of our cruising experience (they had only been on 1 Princess cruise at that time). So we booked all 22 of us on the Celebrity Millennium and had an incredible time. Mom and Dad prefered it over Princess and the 2nd generations (aged 18 to 24) loved it too, many of them had taken a Carnival cruise before.

I think for your hubbie-to-be, this would be an excellent choice. By the way, we are very interested in an Equinox Transatlantic out of Rome next October...incredible price!

Yes...Europe on a Celebrity ship = class, romance and fun!

that's sweet i'm definitely not the girl who thinks it's all going to be a fairy tale~i have a hard time even letting him take out my garbage because i've been so independent for so long *even though he's a wonderful man who is insistent on doing things for me just because he wants to* i know that living with/sharing life with another person is a big change and takes a lot of work to make it work~and that's what we intend to do

we booked last week celebrity equinox here we come!

Default Marriage

All of Parrot Pops brotherrs were taught by their mother to help arund the house.. Even when it was not popular he would bathe our sons, put them to bed, help vacuum, etc. etc Even now... he vacuums, brings up the wash, takes out the trash.. There is NO such thing as a woman and a mens job in t his house.. Marriage is 50 -50 proposition.. and learn that quickly....that we learned many years ago.

OMG! I'm a first time Celebrity cruiser too! I'm so excited (I'm sailing away on the Equinox next month!!!)
My last two cruises were NCL. They were OK but I heard that Celebrity is definitely a step up. We have a concierge class room on the HUMP.

Congrats on your engagment!

I have to disagree. Celebrity is NOT for everybody. It's best to look elsewhere if

>> (1) You are looking for a lively, and perhaps even somewhat wild, party (Celebrity's style tends to be classy and stylish, but relatively tame), or

>> (2) You don't like dressing up for the evening, including "formal" evenings (Celebrity's "alternative casual" options are quite limited), or

>> (3) You prefer simple cuisine and "comfort food" over ultra-fancy cuisine with a lot of sauces and such (Celebrity's cuisine is quite fancy), or

>> (4) You are looking for a "dirt cheap" cruise (Celebrity's prices onboard tend to be somewhat higher than those of "mainstream" lines),

or any of several other factors which might indicate that Celebrity is not such a good match for you.

Norm.

I agree with you Norm, but agree with Manuel too. Maybe he wasn't attempting to be "literal"; and he was using a "catch phrase" which is appropriate in a forum of experience and opinions, don't you think?

I have only sailed on three cruise lines: Princess, Carnival and Celebrity. I do agree with your 5 points however.

Manuel? Maybe you and I should say, "We can't go wrong with X?"

Default Cruising Celebrity

Our first cruise was on t he new NCL Seaward 24 years ago... Cruising meant white gloves, french service, politeness and an elegant way of traveling.. I can remember parts of it very vividly... It is up to the "younger generation" now to see what cruising used to be like.. if they want to party.. okay,, Celebrity is not for them,, if they don't want to be adventurous in their cuisine..they will know that meat loaf is available on other lines..yet pizza, sushi, hamburgers and hot dogs are avaiilable..Yes, maybe Celebrity draws a bit more sophisticated traveler.. but why shouldn't the up and coming cruisers try this type of cruising at least once.. Nobody is going to tar and feather them..lol Not everybody needs a waterslide or bowling alley..and I can't think of a more romantic vacation for a young couple to walk on the deck at night at sea or sit in out in their balcony wiith a drink and watch the stars....to dream of their future.

Good point Parrot Mom.

I guess some do look for things like ice skating, bowling alleys and rock climbing (Oh My!) But for me, there's not too many things more romantic than walking around the ship's outer deck at night. It is really special, isn't it?

Maybe I was born too late? I would have loved to experience the white gloved service that was common, 20+ years ago. Interestingly, I enjoy the casual freedom though, of today. Can't we combine the two?!?

I do think Celebrity is a good mix though, sans the party scene.

I am also considering Celebrity to Europe after more than a dozen cruises on other lines.

We are looking at Century RT out of Barcelona in June. They have two ittineraries. Any thoughts?

WE have just come off the NCL Gem trans-Atlantic and I can tell you there is no comparison to Celebrity.. First, of all.."free style" in the free restaurants means indifferent service and mediocre food.. The entertainment was a crying shame..awful, awful, awful..NCL at one time had the best entertainment at sea..not any more. In discussing this with an NCL cruiser she agreed completely on many of my points. Disembarcation was awful.. especially for handicapped cruisers...There will be a review as soon as I finish unpacking.. Can't wait to go back to Celebrity

The new Celebrity ships are beautiful and the food is excellent, especially the specialty restaurant options. My own SIL just picked the same ship & itinerary as you, so it must be good.

I am sure it is a good value as well because she is a throrough price shopper. I believe you will enjoy the cruise just fine.

"IT MUST BE GOOD".... the big draw beside the ship was-is the itinerary..have heard wonderful things about the ship.. Do want to look into their new dining alternative though.. I really, really wish the itinerary were being done as a trans-Atlantic.. but after seeing the Trevi Fountain and tossing my coin in...any excuse to go back to Rome, Have heard that one of the Cruisemates posters that we met on the Constellation I think is also booked on that cruise..

Hi cutiecat,

You did not say which Celebrity ship you were considering. There is a huge range between the new Celebrity ships and some of the older ones. The Equinox sounds like a very nice ship. For a cruise in Europe as long as you are not on the Infinity, Millennium or Summit, because of possible propulsion problems, you should be fine on Celebrity.

One point that should be mentioned is that, contrary to what some like to believe, Celebrity cruisers are no more or less sophisticated than cruises are on any of the other mainstream cruise lines.

Although some like to cling to the hype of the Conde Nast survey, in reality it is IMHO of no more value than other surveys that do not rank Celebrity at the top of the list. In fact the Porthole magazine survey from last year, failed to give Celebrity one top award out of more than 100 categories.

We are also thinking about Europe for our next cruise. Enjoy your cruise what ever you decide to do.

Debra

Default Booking first cruise

Now Nurse Debra,..if you had taken the time to read ALL the posts instead of trying to denegrade the Celebrity brand y ou would see she is talking about the Equinox. BTW just got off the NCL Gem last Saturday and inspite of some of it's flaws (read my review when it is posted) it is the CLEANEST ship I have ever been on (read more on these boards) even during the heavy trans-atlantic swells, etc...NO SHIP and I mean previous NCL, Princess or Celebrity came close to the fanatic cleanliness espoused on this ship.. cleaning baseboards at 11:30 p.m. on the decks, washing of pedastals in a rocking dining room and the "washie-washie" couple at the door to the Garden Cafe..
