Default No smoking on balcony, really ???

I was looking forward to booking my first cruise on Celebrity, as a Diamond member on RC I was looking for a change. I've come across a little hitch though, I can't smoke a cigar on my balcony. Is this an enforced policy or one of those things they put in writing for insurance or whatever reason? This is a deal breaker.....please help.

Thanks

Yep: No smoking on balconies on Celebrity. Royal Caribbean does allow smoking on the balconies but this differs with their sister-company Celebrity.

Take care,
Mike

...and if I am not mistaken, there is a fairly hefty charge for "room sanitizing" if you are caught.....I think the actual number can be found on the Celebrity site....

Some of us can't handle second hand smoke.
So it's not a perfect world, but I think that all rules including proper attire at dinner should be enforced.

Royal Caribbean doesn not allow cigar smoking on balconies either. Here is the smoking policy from their web site:

"Effective January 2008, smoking is only permitted in designated areas and outdoors on the Starboard side of the ship (contact the Guest Services for details). Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, hallway or corridor. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on Oasis class Boardwalk or Central Park private balconies, however, it is permitted on private ocean view balconies of balcony/suite staterooms. A $250 penalty will be applied to the SeaPass for guests found smoking in staterooms or on the private balconies in Boardwalk and Central Park onboard Oasis class ships. Pipe & cigar smoking is only permitted within the Cigar lounge. If no Cigar lounge exists on the ship, there will be a designated area for pipe & cigar smoking, you will find out the location once onboard. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard."

Someday we will have smoke-free ships.

Carnival had one that was totally non smoking a few years ago --not even the crew could smoke but unfortunately it didn't last.
It was the Paradise that's now reduced to 3-4 day cruises from California.
Maybe there just weren't enough non-smokers to keep it filled week after week.
I was on the Freedom of the Seas a couple of weeks ago. On RCCL you can't smoke in your cabin but can on your balcony. There was a pretty rowdy bunch up the hall from us about 6-8 doors in an inside cabin.
One morning we started up the hall and there was a huge stack of dishes, etc. sitting out in the hall by their cabin and I bet there were at least 3 packs of cigarette butts in cups, saucers, plates, etc. as they had no ashtrays in which to put them. That was the last time we ever saw that as I'm sure as much as they had smoked they had to pay the price for fumigating and cleaning the cabin. Guess they learned the hard way.

Woody:

It is strictly enforced especially for a cigar. First offense is a $250.00 fine put on your bill, second offense is off the ship.

There are only a couple of places where you can smoke a cigar on any of the ships and all are outside.

dkjretired is right - just disembarked the =X= Infinity today and this was the first time (for us) where we didn't have to leave Fortunes Casino, because of the smoke, they actually made more from us this time, .

First time we didn't smell smoke outside from our veranda as well. I didn't research, but from what I saw, smoking was only permitted on deck 10 (pool and grill area) - one side, as well as on deck 5 starboard side.

I certainly would enjoy going to a smoke-free casino.

Woody,
I'm sorry you can't smoke your cigar on the balcony. It's a tough call, it's something you like to do on your private balcony you paid for.
I have to say I've been on my balcony before and smelled my neighbors smoke and it ruined my outside time OOPS!
Is there anywhere else on the ship you can smoke?
Hope it all works out!
