Default Cruising Nude on Celebrity

While we were on the Constellation a couple of weeks ago, we were told that the ship had been chartered for a San Diego - Hawaii round trip by a company that specializes in clothing optional vacations. It's happening sometime in March.

I'm pretty open minded about most things, but it strikes me that is a step backward for Celebrity. I always thought that Celebrity was a "cut above" most of the cruise lines, and this disappoints me.

I did check the website for the chartering company, and the prices they are asking are outrageous. A Concierge Class cabin is as much per person as we just paid for two. As a stockholder, I hope Celebrity is getting a large chunk of that.

Nude cruise charters are quite popular. I've only seen them advertised on smaller Carnival and Royal Caribbean ships. I also think it's a bit strange for Celebrity to do a charter. Perhaps they have become so popular they needed a bigger ship.

I just looked at the site and it looks like the ship is almost sold out. There are a lot of Naturists out there.

I hope they use napkins at dinner time. One on top of their lap and one under.

Take care,
Mike

Default Nude Cruising on Constellation

Yeah, and I'll bet when the ship goes into drydock in April, it will get a very thorough scrubbing - at least I hope it will.

A while back there was this on Cruise Log..so if there is market demand I guess the lines will accomodate....

"The cruise came just months after what was billed as the first Swingers Cruise -- a sexually-charged voyage on another Carnival ship organized by a start-up company called YOLO Cruises -- YOLO standing for "you only live once."
YOLO Cruises president Marlene Brustle told USA TODAY at the time the idea was to offer swingers -- people who embrace non-monogamous sexual experiences -- a chance to get away with like minded people in "an open, erotic atmosphere . . . it will feature full nudity at the pools, daytime pool parties and specially planned sexually themed parties in the evening."
In both cases, the cruises were not organized by the line but by an outside group that blocked space from the line for the voyage. In the case of the Swingers Cruise, it was what is known as a "full-ship charter," meaning everyone on board was part of the organizer's group.
Both voyages reportedly were a hit, and now more are in the works. As the Cruise Log first reported last week, YOLO Cruises has chartered another Carnival vessel for a second Swingers Cruise out of Miami on Oct. 29. And there already are two more cougar-themed cruises on the docket -- one to take place in May on a Royal Caribbean ship and another coming later on a Norwegian Cruise Line vessel.
The sexually-charged voyages already have caused some controversy, and just last month Carnival said it would no longer allow cougar cruises on its ships. It didn't give a reason for the prohibition. But organizers say they're just catering to demand from the American public, a portion of which is eager to sign up for such trips."

I would imagine they would be clothed at dinner time. I think it would be gross to be trying to eat a meal and have all those naked bodies around. hmmmmmmmmm Na - don't like the idea at all.

What happens when a nother ship is along side when in port? Do they have to be clothed then?

The only upside - shouldn't have to pay luggage charges at the airports.

I think that many cruisers actually look better with clothes on.

I'm just imagining my last cruise on the Mercury (average age 70) with everyone naked

Well... Clothing in ports - optional on the ship.

You have to be dressed or have a cover up in any dining area.

agree it is certaintly not an image you would think of with Celebrity as said to be a cut above the others?
Bet they also get to smoke whatever they want wherever they want---not just in pool area but on balconies and in some bars as well as casino.

While they are smoking they don't have to worry about burning holes in their clothes.

"Nude cruise charters are quite popular."

That could be Mike, but it's the first I've heard of it in 25 years of cruising. Thankfully, I guess we live very sheltered lives. Only one person in 50 has a body anyone wants to see. My wife and I took a vote and we would not want to sit on any surface proveiously occupied by one of these sans ropa folks!

Rich,

Over the years people have posted "ads" for these cruises on the boards. I guess we deleted them before you saw them.

Since the start of the board there have been numerous legitimate threads and posts about this topic.

I guess I've noticed them more since I have to look at almost all posts and threads. Or maybe I'm just "drawn" to them.

Take care,
Mike

Now I have to say that I personally don't have a body I think anyone would be too interested in seeing in the buff, what with scars, etc. I'd be afraid if I showed up pool side I'd be run off by flying bottles, shoes, boos etc. but one never knows--there's some real squirrels out there--But when you think about a nude cruise, just imagine going to the local mall, local Walmart , local Kroger , etc. and seeing everyone running around naked. To me that would put a damper on any desire I had to try a cruise of this type!
The way a lot of folks dress to go out to malls, stores etc. are enough turn off, much less seeing them without anything at all on!
I can imagine some of the " cougars " on the Carnival Cougar cruise-- bet there were some real " lookers " on that one !

There have been nude cruises for YEARS - they used to go on Windjammer and Star Clippers, because they didn't have that many participants, but I guess they are getting more popular.

Personally - I used to think it would be fun when I was younger, but now I think I would just get bored with it. I mean it is still a cruise except you are nude.

I guess I don't get it - everyone is nude but doing normal things - so you are essentially acting as if you are not nude, but you are.

It seems to me if I'm going to get naked I want it to be for a specific reason that requires me to be nude. But being nude and acting normal defeats the entire purpose of being nude.

So, essentially, its a bunch of ugly people walking around naked and pretending they aren't sneaking peaks at the better looking people but really that is the primary reason they are there. And the better looking people are acting like they are just casually nude, when really they are just hoping someone wants to sneak a peak at them.

Maybe I should just drop this before I say something ridiculous... (as if it isn't already too late)

For sure on a nude cruise the simple phrase " Oh My God " could have a double meaning !!

In St. Marteen our tour guide took us to a nude beach. We were not told, he just surprized us. I happened to look straight ahead and this 70-80 year old man was looking at me. At first I thought his belly was hanging over his bathing suit, wrong, he didn't have one on. After one of the other tourists and I stopped laughing (that was not nice of us) one young girl was screaming, my eyes, my eyes, I think I am blinded. Needless to say, the ones naked (that we saw) should not have been. I am sure we were called prudish Americans, but at least we know when we should cover up what others don't care to see!!

The guide must have taken you to Orient beach-I can't believe he didn't tell you. Or that you didn't know-it's one of the most well-known nude beaches in the Caribbean. We've been a couple of times but to the west end of the beach, most of the nudist are at the east end where there is a "clothing optional resort". But I agree-the folks to opt for no clothing are always the ones who shouldn't!

No, we didn't know. We just found a taxi to give us a tour. We were just there along for the ride. He, the taxi driver, got a kick out of it....we did too.

Well, first of all, lets remember that Americans are among the most prudish society in the world when it comes to nudity. Not that I am complaining, I am just saying that in Asia especially, and lots of Europe - Spain and Germany in particular, it is not considered a big deal.

I know I am personally not comfortable in such situations, but I try not to judge others based on my reaction to things, especially if they were raised differently.

If you think about it we have a lot of societal taboos. You know Arab cultures find it embarassing to look at the face of a strange woman. So...

Not that it interests me in the slightest ....but I think the point of these naturist cruises is that nobody cares about what they look like naked...or so they say...agree about the napkins!!

I think the "naturists" are quite used to looking at one another and are not upset by seeing non-perfect naked bodies.
