niceguy514, it's generally accepted that it's caused by people not washing their hands throughly after using the toilet (fecal matter
). When they touch something, then you come along and touch it-yikes!
That's why the best
precaution is washing your hands often (not OCD, though!) and well.
If you find that the buffet is no longer "self-serve" and the salt and pepper shakers are not
on the buffet tables or dining room tables, you can "assume" that noro is onboard and take every precaution you can!
BTW, the noro virus shows up in many places where there are a lot of people, not just cruise ships. Nursing homes, schools, hotels, etc., all report noro, but "sick cruises" seem to get all the news attention
