The senior executives said that all of the company's ships will transition to a different art vendor as the current contracts with Park West Gallery expire, but that the on-board art program will continue pretty much in its present form.

That said, I think that another vendor may well run real auctions. Under Park West's operation, you could go into the gallery and buy any piece for the minimum bid (which means that the minimum bid had plenty of markup!).

On our recent cruise on the Solstice it was not Park West running the auction. It was another company but the name escapes me. I made a point of checking it.

When we were on the ship in April the company was from the UK and frankly didn't care for most of the work displayed. The cruise lines get a large cut of the profits, so I don't see "art auctions" going away in the near future.
