In the wake of the recent transients in the stock market, I have done some portfolio rebalancing that increased my position in Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (NYSE: RCL), the parent of Celebrity Cruises, to 4,000 shares.
I guess that means Norm has a financial interest is saying good things about RCCL and it various cruise lines. He is not offering an unbiased opinion.
Not sure the moderators require such a declaration but it is nice to see. Especially since the Royal Champions incident.

Norm is a regular on this board, I disagree with him a lot but I give him a lot of credit for posting this. More people need to be as honest as he has with this OP.

Why? are we supposed to have a different opinion because he holds 4,000 shares? Carnival Corp is a very large client of my company's...should I be disclosing that so you'll take my posts more seriously?
This is a free and open board... the more shares you hold does not give you more credibility in what you post.

Trackypup I agree - what difference does it make if you hold any shares apart from OBC?
I must be missing something - maybe a cultural difference.
I better quick buy another 3,900 shares of CCL, RCI or any cruiseline stock and disclose that personal financial info, so I too can be considered "credible" in my posts !

I own Caterpillar and Deere. Everyone should buy a bulldozer or tractor, or both.

Norm posts generally very positive remarks about Celebrity cruise line. He is being honest about posting that he has an interest in the cruise line and therefore those reading the posts may take it in that light.
I will try and explain this in a very simple way with an example. Recently there was a scandal in England over a Newspaper which caused the newspaper to shut down. Without going into the scandal, if you watched any of the Fox Stations in the US, they would give a disclaimer when reporting stories on the scandal that the newspaper in England was owned by the same parent company as Fox. Its not of the same importance on this cruiseboard but hopefully those who made negative comments will understand why he did it and why he was being honest.

Maybe I just don't care, but I have enough faith in posters to think their opinion on a cruise line is not financially motivated. If he can't keep his financial standing out of a cruise discussion, maybe he shouldn't be posting. As I said earlier, Carnival pays my company millions...who cares??

So instead of the eye rolling gentlemen, enlighten us. How are we now supposed to respond to anything that Norm posts? do we just assume everything he posts is now financially related? dismiss his posts? take them all with a grain of salt? what is the suitable reaction? If nothing, then why bother sharing the information.

Perhaps we do not have the "elite status" that others have, therefore we are not privy to understand Norm's posts !

Disclosures do not need nor warrant a response. They are usually stated to negate any possible claims of conflict of interest. It's very common in the financial world and by professional politicians or lobbyists.
He's just stating a fact and making no claim beyond it. Does not warrant any response and certainly nothing to get so upset about.

Simple, be honest, call them as you see them,I have been doing that for a long time. If I think hes wrong I say so , if hes right I say so.
Sorry Norm, what is the functionality of your post ?
Here in the States, we have laws requiring people with financial interests who make comments related to those interests to disclose those interests in the same forum. I don't have a battery of lawyers to research all the nuances of those laws, so I make a general disclosure when the interest changes with the intent of covering all of the bases.
Are you suggesting others to follow your portfolio rebalancing decision, or just advising what you have done ?
I made no such suggestion. I'm just trying to ensure compliance with applicable laws regarding disclosure of finanical interests that may be affected by one's public comments. I have made similar disclosures in the past.

Thank you for the explanation but I still don't get it.
IMHO - such a declaration is unnecessary and meaningless but let the matter rest.
