Summit to St Thomas

We will be in St Thomas this march, I hear that the thing to do is ferry over to the smaller island of St John. Is this easy to do on our own? The excursions seem to be kinda pricy (like always). St John is mostly parkland? Is it easy to get to the National Park? I'm sure there is also shopping. Should we worry about missing the boat? Jimbo

We went to St John but the weather was so bad we came back, pity I was looking forward to it. Nothing much in the shopping line I think it's more of a beach place, the national park is I think a marine park, a tiny island. Lots do it alone. Supposed to be a beach lovers paradise.
