Are khaki pants with short sleeved polo shirt appropriate for smart casual & above in the main dining room & theater ? How about khaki pants with short sleeved Hawaiian shirt ? I am talking nice dress Khaki ( no cargo ) and nice dress shirt with soft colors not something screaming Hawaiian ! Thanks going on the Eclipse.
The collared shirt part, I found ludicrous...some of the collarless shirts are great looking, and I have seen many....I see no point to have that in the description.

I don't think this thread was to discuss cultural differences.
I think your khaki slacks and soft Hawaiian shirt sound great. Totally appropriate (anyway!) for a warm-weather cruise. I've worn them in the MDR or Blu on warm cruises...have fun on the Eclipse, we loved her.
Now the Eclipse sailing out of Southampton doing a W. Med cruise? You may be the only one wearing a tropical shirt - I think the Eclipse does the Canary Island cruises and some Caribbean as well, you should be juuuuust fine.
BUT...there are differences aren't there? Some Americans seem to think that putting on some sort of shirt & chinos is elegant. A cruise line may set the dress code but the interpretation is down to the individual, & the individual judges this based on what he is used to.

Absolutely, but as long as the cruiser is complying with the cruise line's standard, who is anyone else to judge? What the OP described fits perfectly within Celebrity's standard of Smart Casual. If Smart Casual to you is something else and that too fits within Celebrity's definition, then wear it.

Dress code on formal nights calls for tux, suit or dinner jacket. Will he be allowed in with a sports jacket, probably...
