Hello fellowcruisers,

My husband and I will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and wondered if anyone could assist us with the following:

I decided to give us some time to recover from jet lag and was looking for a hotel to stay at for a couple of days.

Could anyone recommend a hotel in Australia near the port of departure? I recently checked out Marriott and the price was over $600.00 (for 3 nights)!

Also, what about nearby walking distance restaurants?

The Summit isn't in Australia in 2013. Are you sure you don't mean Solstice?

I don't think that hotel rate is high by Aussie standards. BTW what is the port?

Not sure of the port as yet.

Sydney is the only departure port for this vessel.
You can take a look at the Australia/New Zealand forum on this board for other things to do while there.
The price is probably quite correct for a Hotel in downtown Sydney and I use Expedia when looking for hotels there.

There are many less expensive hotels in the Sydney area. I spent one n ight in a Best Western in North Sydney. $130.00. Not elegant, but all we did was sleep there. I have also spent several nights in a Travel Lodge in downtown Sydney, with in easy walking distance to Hyde Park. It was about $150.00 per night. It was better than the Best Western.
