I was wondering, what is your favorite public room on any ship that you have sailed? For me, it is still the Wheelhouse Bar on the Sea Princess - had so many great nights there in conversation with so many people...and I love having a sofa or a leather chair to sit in.
My favorite "public room" on a ship, wasn't really a room... On the Britanis, at the very rear of Main Deck, just below to pool on Upper Deck, was a very large deck area, open on three sides but covered by the Upper deck. It still had the (refurbished) big, wicker chairs and sofas, with overstiffed cushions, and wicher and glass tables. The only way to get to this area, called the Quiet Deck, was either through the gym or library. Most of the passengers who sailed on the ship never even found it... Cool on sunny days; dry on rainy days; empty most days...
THE DINING ROOM! After that room, my favorite space would actually be an area...promenade or lido deck. Front row seat to the sea.
Merman however I'm sure would have to vote for the hot tub, especially the Aqua Spa on the Millennium. Every once in while, I might wave to him through the steam.
Difficult to pick just one. These are very high on my list:
Viking Crown Lounges on the Splendour, Vision, and Sovereign of the Seas
Wheelhouse on the Sea Princess nd Sun Princess
Great Outdoor Restaurant on the Norway
All wrap-around promenade decks
I agree with Mermaid....my favorite public room on the Grand was the dining room because it was the place where we all met up at night, and caught up on what we'd done during the day.
Hey I'm with U Reef, the Viking Crown lounge on Explorer and their other ships have the best views around. We actually took our coffee up there and just sat and watched the morning activity, nice start to the day :-)
In consultation with Queeg, we agree that it's the America's Cup Club on the Horizon and Zenith.
Celebrity may have made a mistake with the name ... our first cruise on that class of ships we thought it was a members-only area. It took us -- and not that many others -- a while to figure out that it was a public area.
It was our favorite hangout on our Alaska cruise on Horizon. Never crowded, and it almost DID become a private club with "regulars" who had their usual tables. Beautiful views.
Have to agree with Lisa with the Wheelhouse bar-- now only if they had the Martinis/Cosmo that they have on the Millie-- I would have died and gone to heaven. I think that the people I'm with make a big difference too-- If your with a nice group-- it really doesnt matter where you are on a ship-- cruising together is all that counts

My favorite rooms tend to be the movie theaters. One thing I love to do on a cruise is catch up on all the films I haven't had time to see at home. I go to the theaters (Holland America is tops here, free popcorn) and I watch the videos in the cabins. Celebrity has nice theaters on the Millennium class ships, too.
Princess is also good because when they show films in their main lounge the screen is the same size as you see in land-based theaters, not those mini-screens like a big-screened TV. But they don't show them often enough.
For cabin TV, Renaissance has several movies showing at the same time so you get a wide selection. Boo to the cruiselines who want to charge as much as $8.00 for a pay-per-view movie in the cabin.
Windstar is tops for in-cabin TV, though. They have movie channels and VCRs in every cabin AND room service will deliver pizza and even freshly popped popcorn!
Paul:
Do you really do all that movie watching while you cruise? I tell my hubby he "can watch movies anytime.....we are on a cruiseship.....let's do cruiseship stuff". I don't know, maybe it is a "man thing". He would probably be happy watching movies too.

My next favorite might seem odd to some.. but it was the piano bar on the Destiny. It was THE spot to be on the ship during our cruise. Great fun every night!!
The disco in Celebrity's Galaxy. Loved to watch when the light/sound system emerged from the ceiling. Like a spaceship about to pick us up. After that, the fun in the disco till ??? a.m., especially on Gourmet Bites night!
